I can only offer my personal experience. If I smoke weed in very small amounts - one smoking session at 1-3 tokes ONCE a week - my depression improves. If I smoke too often it potentiates my depression and I get worse.
I think weed works against clear thinking and this can confuse life's challenges even more. It also reduces motivation so dealing with those challenges becomes harder. Cutting back is a good idea, it will give you perspective.
