Let me first preface by saying that I think male circumcision is a stupid and barbaric practice. I am circumcized, my parents never thought twice about it because it was just what you did. Likewise, my good friend circumcized his son (recently), his reasoning was something vague about not wanting to have to explain why his penis was different from his son's when they were peeing next to each other. Which is a dumb reason, but anyway...
There is not some sort of weird sinister conspiracy about male circumcision. It is largely just a tradition that we, for some reason, haven't stopped yet. It's not like doctors are sitting there eagerly awaiting that tender, succulent baby foreskin as some posts have seemed to suggest. I think most parents don't think twice about it, because of a misguided idea that it's somehow healthy or the "right thing to do", or in many cases, even less thought goes into it than that (it's just what you do, and you never thought about why or question it). You seem to imply (in both of your most recent posts in here) that people are putting a lot of thought into it, or that it's a comparable choice to abortion. It isn't though, I think most people are just not really stopping to think about it. Until I started reading this thread, in fact, I never once even thought about the fact that I was circumcized or whether that would be something I would have chosen for myself, and I know my parents didn't, either. Nor did the doctor that did it; he was probably circumcized, too. I actually had no idea that's not just how penises looked until I was an adult.
I would prefer, in retrospect, to have not been circumcized, but if I hadn't read this thread I never once would have thought about it in my entire life, probably. And it doesn't negatively impact my life, I still enjoy sex plenty. I don't feel like a victim of mutilation. The only reason I'd ever think I was mutilated is because people in this thread try to tell me I was mutilated, some of you with a level of passion that shocks me.
I do think the practice should stop but reading this thread, one might think it's one step away from murder, and that doctors are jacking off over piles of baby foreskin while they cackle with glee. When in fact it's simply the perpetuation of a dumb tradition with its roots in religion, and few, if any, people practicing it, either doctors or parents, have anything resembling sinister intentions.
