Barebacking: unprotected anal sex

Interesting. I just had heard all my life that it was a terrible illness that's not really treatable, but I guess I was misinformed. Basically, you have to keep taking your meds, but if you do you're in the clear. That's amazing that it can be so easily treated, I had no idea. I've just always heard it mentioned by friends and family as a horrible disease that essentially kills you over a period of years. Now, I feel like it's kind of irresponsible to give people misinformation on it. People should be informed of real risks rather than scare tactics on it. I mean, I'd still try to avoid getting it obviously..... and I'd say that it would still be a good idea to avoid it if at all possible. On the other hand, I'm also glad that it's not quite as bad as it gets made out to be. I'm glad they have finally figured out a way to treat it well, I can remember so long with people saying it was basically a death sentence.

That's how it used to be before the anti-virals. Also the first generation or two of them were quite brutal on the body and required that you take several pills at different times of the day.

Please don't misunderstand me. Being HIV+ is still a concern and if you are, there's a number of extra things you need to do and take into consideration which you otherwise wouldn't need to. Depending on a pill to keep you healthy isn't ideal, and there is more chance of developing complications such as dementia as you get older. But it's nothing like the 80s and 90s when people got really sick and there was no hope.

Whats even scarier is a lot of the new guys don't really understand 'bareback' - they are / have grown / growing up not needing condoms, I take a pill to prevent HIV - I get HIV then I take a different pill what is the problem ?

Indeed. All you can do is inform and hope people make sensible choices.

Yes, I would love to bareback with the right guy, but until he comes along, I will not have unprotected sex. Pleas think about what a STD could do to you and your life.

Had bareback anal sex with the same prostitute several times, got some minor STD that went away with pills. Didn't care at the time but wouldn't do it again, it feels just the same with condom anyway. Only blowjobs have different sensation bareback vs. condom. There is risk to cautgh STD with that too, but I have got unprotected blowjobs from 10 different prostitutes, but never got STD from that, it's just nice to cum in mouth, it's really only reason not to use condom.

I wonder how many pm's this post got?

I don't get why prostitutes would offer bareback sex. I mean, it's one thing being an escort and making a safe living. It's quite another openly offering a service which rapidly increases your chances of getting an std.

I live in HIV central sunny South Africa so bareback here is Russian roulette without the bullets but with dodgy AIDS smegma penile fluid. Yum. You wanna die from AIDS? Have a bareback sessions with a one night stand in Africa. Never do that no no no.

I doubt the op is trolling as many people unfortunately do partake in these sorts of high risk behaviors, especially while being severely manic as op has experienced. This is how people generally get hiv/aids or by sharing needles so it's very dangerous indeed to have promiscuous unprotected anal sex. Even If you get treated for hiv and don't die, once you have it..... the whole thing is fucking miserable beyond words between the disease itself and the side effects of the meds. Really not something you want to take any chances with. If it weren't for the mania, I'd say the problem could be solved by simply insisting that any men you hook up with wear a condom. However, if you're getting manic enough that you're doing reckless stuff like not using protection, I think you should seriously consider getting your manic tendencies treated if you haven't already.
