Opioids Anyone over 30 years on methadone or buprenorphine?

Hey Ne0
I understand a bit better now. Thanks for sharing your story. In my experience Bupe doesn't have the same libido reducing effects as other opiates.

UkMethadonelady, not at first, and maybe not for women, but trust me after long enough it does. It's not like I couldn't get a hard on(with some physical contact) but the desire wasn't there, and I'm not talking about masturbation I have a gorgeous wife(of coming up on 12 years) and we always had a VERY active sex life until the last few years of me being on bupe(she still is on bupe, so maybe its different for women) and she was becoing very frustrated...but now that I am off things are returning to normal, I mean its still hard for me to keep up with her sometimes, but I want her, I'm just getting older and am a considerate lover so if my body(back pains, bloating, etc) is going to slow me down it makes me reluctant to engage. But we are having plenty of sex again, when at the worst times while I was on maintenance we might be own twice a month, or once some months, and for us that is very abnormal.

Yeaheveryone is different, when I was on opium I might watch little porn or have sex every 3 months and that was great for me, I have sex and porn addiction, also have some serious problems about my sexual preference (don't ask). So it was god-bless. Now as I'm opioid free I'm hypersexual, I watch porn 4 hours a day and on top of that have sex with my gf at least 1 hour, and often think about going to see some prostitutes. It's very serious problem for me, its really big waste of time, its just very short time of enjoyment in the end. I have ltos of other things I want to do, read books, go exercise but porn just takes my mind over and I skip all the things I planned to do on that day. Well thats whole different day.

Hey Ne0 & Coolwhip yes it sounds like maybe long term Bupe use is the same as methadone maintenance in that respect. Knocks out most of the desire and ability to have sex (same for women). Yes it does sound like it could be useful for you Ne0- that sounds quite overwhelming (like any addiction I suppose)

New here and 2nd post :). I am 30y old and on 20mg methadone and i started 2 years ago almost on 90mg so slowly but getting there. Yes i know when on 2mg or O then it will be difficult but i gonna do my best.

Regards

Using right now clonazepam for short time and now no sexual desires at all, great. But I tried lyrica for one week and went full blown sexual very strong urge to watch porn many hours and have sex after that. But even as it is problem I really enjoy take dextroamphetamine (meth is terrible, no thanks) and have sex for hours or just watch porn for 12 hours. But thats only few times a year.

As I recommend to everyone, get some kratom for the days after stopping, then after you are stabl on kratom taper down on that before switching to akumma seeds fir a couple days got really soft landing, then there are other botanicals, which don't act on opiate receptors, which help with the end of acute WD nd prevent PAWS...then use benzos and OTC comfort meds to help sleep and increase energy/mental state to make it over the last hump. And you'll probably need to source the kratom online because you want a red vein strain and ime all the head shop kratom is green vein strains with a few whites.

Too bad at least in many European countries these things are illegal and by ordering them you risk big fine and problmes with police (they stop you everywhere when driving car and make you take drug test). I hate this drug war, it prevent people getting plants and meds that they really need,

I'm interested to hear people who have been on methadone or Buprenorphine over 30 years? I'm sure there are lots of people. I'd like to hear how do you feel when you take thee daily dose (first one?) and how often do you have to take, and what doses? How do you feel during the day, physically and emotionally? Do you feel it has more positive effects than negative (aside from relapsing to heroin ofc) on you're life? Do you plan to quit and if so how or do yuo plan to stay on it rest of you're life?

Iv'e heard that Buprenorphine has some anti-depressant effect that in some countries they have srated to give it to people who dont get any positive effect from any antidepressant. If you are on Buprenorphine do you feel that it works as anti-depressant even after so many years?

Thanks for you're input.

I have to agree. Bupe hasn't really been prescribed for all that long, it just really became common within the past 15 years or so, so it will be difficult to find someone who's been on it for that length of time. I do know people who were on methadone for 20+ years and developed severe bone problems. I've been on suboxone for about 10 years, on and off, been stable on it for about 5 years now and it has saved my life. The highest dose I was on was 18 mgs, I'm now down to .5 and it was difficult to drop below 1 mg, I definitely felt W/Ds. As someone who suffers from depression, I've definitely notived a huge surge in my depression and mood when I don't take it. It gives me energy and I can't function without it. But my libido has decreased since starting subs. Some people need to stay on a low dose for the entire duration of their life. Some are okay getting off of it. It's definitely really hard to come off of both bupe and methadone.

I've been on and off (mostly on) methadone for 10 almost eleven years. Methadone has had nothing but a positive impact on my life and has helped me immensely.

I once met an older guy at a methadone clinic in Winnipeg Canada who told me he started methadone in Vancouver BC in the 1970s

Hmm nice to see that methadone do have positive effect on life too, some people tell that it makes you zombie who stays in home waiting for dying. Maybe thats the minority, because mostly people who get positive effects from it dont come tell here it. But have a good future :)
