blahhhh, I can't return them...
Since im growing 4 plants under 600 watts, 5 gal is really too big?

Would 6 plants in 3 gals produce more weight?(Only asking because Im running low on cash and can't really buy my 'meds' anymore. My Cannabis card lets my grow 12 plants, but I dont have a large enough set up for that, Maybe I could make a small area for 6 baby clones to grow while the plants flower? idk...)

anyways, I guess Ill go look at smaller size pots...

and I plan on germinating my seeds tonight, anyone have a suggestion as to what I should put them in once they germinate and grow their first set of leaves, should I start the seeds in paper towels, an once they germinate should I put them in some Peatmoss or Cococoir or should I just put them straight into the Fox farms soil that I have.....
Or maybe even just throw the germinated seed into a wet peice of rockwool and place that in soil? idk.
Just wanna get better results this time around, not plant 4 seeds and have 2 survive, and neither once produce anything over 7 grams...
(Ended up just taking out the NL in the closet, She wasn't making progress, and all she had after about 45-50 days of flowering was 9 grams....haha, wow.

Also, does it make a difference watering from bottom up rather than top to bottom (using gravity),
Do you just put your nutrient solution in the trays and the medium sucks up the water/nutes?

nah, screw it, just use what you got...maybe next time around invest a little and get 3gal's, it's not like they aren't going to produce for you. Especially if your going to use only 6, just veg em a little longer and get them nice and big...you should yield just as much as using 10 or 12 and having them smaller.

I usually veg a little bit longer than most people do, Im beggining to wonder if this has negative effects on the plant, but, I will prob veg 1 1/2 - 2 month, (Idk , this will be my first grow with MH/HPS, my last grow started with CFLs (200 watt,) then switched to a 400 watt HPS for flowering...

So, I've got 4 pots, smalled than the 5 gals, should I grow in the smallest one, then larger, larger and larger, to keep the root ball strong? (or is there a point where transplanting just stresses out the plant)

And, what kinda medium should I put my seeds in once they germ for best results (dont wanna put them in fox farms as I'd think it might cause nute burn and kill a seedling)
The cococoir I buy is pretty salty, if I use it, I usually fill a bucket and just rinse the hell out of it...Or I could just put it in Peat, or rockwool, idk, I need some input.

Thanks Muncheez, appreciate the input :D
nice lookin plants by the way, and, are you watering them buy just letting the roots suck up the water from the tray , or do you pour water on top of the soil and have it sink down out of the soil into the tray?

Prelude if it were me I would start seeds in a seed raising mix in a small cup then transplant into your final pot once the roots fill up.

only veg as long as necessary ..... the longer they grow, the more time they have to contract sometime of negative condition..

^^^ agreed, if you do everything correctly, you shouldn't need to veg more than 15 days under the 400w MH.

15 days? woah woah, Im not starting from clones here man, these are seeds...
15 days?
Ive never even heard of a 2 week veg? Unless your clones are like, Wow. idk
then again, I've always vegged for 1 1/2 months due to the fact I had CFLS, Im guessing Ill prob just need a month, 25-30 days
And remember, these are 4 plants. 5 gal pots.
I am aiming for a larger plant due to the lack of seeds to produce a 6 flower / 6 veg this time around.

I do supercrop, Makes a HUGE difference IMO...

So, when it comes to the seeds, , Ill just stick them under some T5s , and a few CFLS.
Still, dont really know what the best medium to place the seeds in to get them started, no ones responded about that, and if they have Ive missed it
Thinking about just throwing em in peatmoss until the 3-6 day mark, then transition it to the MH.
that sound alright?

what the best medium to place the seeds in to get them started
Peat moss should work well. I prefer to use peat moss and vermiculite for seeds and rock wool for clones. For some reason when I use rock wool for seeds, they damp off on me really quick.

15 days isn't long enough for a seed grow,...i go by plant height and branching since I take cuttings....from a seed, its going to be more like 6 to 8 weeks.. from a clone 4 to 6 should do...the height of a foot or more works for me since they stretch 50 to 60% more in bloom. keep your headroom in mind .. the main point is not to just let them go and go thinking of more yield...you risk disease and losing any extra you might have gained..

Well, I was thinking larger because I had some LST and may SCRog, idk.
Maybe I should just stick to growing normally until I can produce anything work smoking...

Do diseases happen very often indoors?(I'm guessing they might as well if I always have my window open, idk)

So, I was thinking about 14-16 inches tall for the plant, you think thats okay?(I've got about 8 1/2 feet head room) Cause I still wanna get a few clones, and have some extra to plant in the garden in my backyard. :D, my Northern Lights and Purple Power plant both outdoor, but unfortunatly in a shady area most of the day, they dont seem to be producing anything special, but, I see the difference between a sativa bud vs indica bud now , they look much different on the plant to me, but they are both pretty much 90%+ of indica or sativa, Im sure it'd be difficult telling a 50/50 hybrid, lol.

Anyways...
Just put the seeds in a moist paper towel , in a cup, in a dark, and the warmest spot I know of (its about 78-83 degrees, is that okay for a seed to germ in?)

And thanks wolf gang, I figured peat works pretty well as its kinda neutral and holds moisture well...
Glad to have seen an answer for that :p

No doubt, starting from seeds definitely takes longer than 15 days..my bad, I thought u had clones. Once I put my clones under the 400, after 15 days, my canopy is pretty much filled. Guess I'm used to the sour and snow white, they are vigorous as hell.

Prelude, once u narrow down the strains u wanna use, if u have the space, keep like 2 or 3 mother plants, clones are much easier to work with and u don't waste any time with males, as you usually always get some when starting seeds. I'm serious, I took my first round of clones on 7/19, the 2nd batch on 7/26, then by 8/12 all my clones were upsized into 6" squares using fox farm ocean forest potting soil. By 8/23 they were upsized into the 3 gal pots and put under the 400MH, on 9/6 I flipped to 12/12 and now I'm on day 7 of flower..55-60 more days and ill be cutting them down, and the new batch will go right in. I pretty much have the entire year mapped out, should easily get my 4 cycles.

Edit- uh, I can't count, I'm actually on day 9, I posted day 7 at first :-\

I also clone
I cloned this Northern Lights plants, had 4 plants in the back yard, dogs dug up 3 , so, I put up a fence, now Ive got 2 purple power clones back there, and a Northern Lights (all Fem)

I like cloning as its faster, and seems easier than seeds really
Im just going with Indica dominant strains with high CBD .
Maybe an occasional sativa in my garden , other than that, indica.

Way back in the early pages of this , I had been cloning my first, and second plant, all rooted :D, hope I get the same luck next time around.

So, let me get this straight. The plants u have now are outside and you are going to cut clones from those and then bring them inside? I guess its do-able, but u may run into another host problems..besides it being harder for the clones to root...now that your plants have been outside, you may contaminate your inside area. Outdoor plants usually have some sort of insect or pest on them, not to mention any possible mold or powdery mildew.

I failed horribly when I tried to clone outdoor plants haha, I couldn't get them to root, once they hit the flourescents after being used to the sun, they just died. That doesn't mean you will have the same experience. I just hope you don't wind up bringing a bunch of pests and disease into your indoor area.

I think u will have good success if you dedicate 1 or 2 plants to being mothers and keeping them indoors. This way you can take more than u need. I cut over 30 clones yesterday and from that I'm hoping to get atleast 20 that root, then out of those 20, I keep the best 10-12 for inside. Its much easier to put clones outside when they started from inside, than it is to take outdoor plants and then bring them indoors.

"2010-2011 Community Grow Journal-tips, tricks & experiences"

Since many of us have posted pictures, gave advice..have taken advice..etc etc. Unless we want to make this Prelude specific, since he IS the one that started this thread.

I AGREE WITH MUNCH
well i would enjoy showing some pics of my grow since i have only shown a little so far.

But i don't think i need to make another thread so i will start posting pics here.

Unless we decide that this is preludes grow thread, and i should make my own...
