Hello guys

Just a simple question about insomnia, as we all know sleep is an important factor in bodybuilding for a number of reasons

I have extremeeee insomnia

Curious to know if any of you have it as well and do you take anything for it ?

Benzos just wake me up,

I've found Amitriptyline, Trazadone and Chlorpromazine to knock me out, though they all have their negative effects on the way you feel the next day due to being anti-depressants and anti-psychotics

Zolpidem (Ambien) worked for me before surprisingly, I am thinking of trying a Zolpidem/Zopiclone combo at the lowest dose possible, this with a small amount of strong weed should do the trick without fucking my brain chemicals up too much

Anybody other lifters here need to take something for sleep ?

If so what do you use ?

I sometimes have insomnia, I do not want to take drugs for it as in my opinion you shouldn't mix bodybuilding and drugs.

What works for me is taking a hot shower 1 hour before bed time, the drop in temperature when you get out of the shower makes you sleepy and tends to work wonders on my insomnia.

I do get insomnia some times myself, and as bone said, for some reason a hot shower wakes me up bit relaxes me and allows me to drift off, I feel strangely comforted and smooth or something after a shower

Sex/masturbation. Melatonin. Benedryl. That's my nightly cocktail.

The temperatur drop is what makes you sleepy. I saw this english documentary about sleep and insomnia, when taking a hot shower your body temperature rises, at the 1 hour mark there will be a significant temperature drop and allows alot of people to drift off. There were other methods, I can try watch it again and post more techniques.

Have you tried valerian root? I havnt personally tried it but I hear at the right dosage it works quite well

^watch out with phenibut man. Shit is actually a gaba agonist and can lead to physical dependence.

I might give my phenibut another shot. Thankfully there's little chance of me getting addicted to any kind of oral drug given my OCD pretty much prohibits me taking them on anything but an empty stomach lol.

Guess I have to find the stupid packet though. Ugh.

I like it for the anti-anxiety. I don't enjoy it in higher amounts.. the high from phenibut feels too like all over the place spacey. its good in small amounts though.

I'm gna use 100mg Chlorpromazine just now,

But gna get Gabapentin again it will be 600mgs 3x daily for back pain but I'll use it when required as those Gaba-b agonists are best for sleep, just alcohol in a tablet.

I wonder how does Phenibut (never tried it) compare to Gabapentin ?

As they are both Gaba-b agonists.

I use ZMA and drink Celestial Seasonings' Sleepytime tea or Yogi's Bedtime tea, it's pretty calming.

Something nobody else here has mentioned yet is developing a pre-bedtime routine that you execute every day. I starting doing this awhile back to get my mind into a sleep-mode so that I pass out more quickly. It's worked wonders for falling asleep faster. I'll turn off the TV, close my laptop, dim the lights and then set the AC in my home to 68F, then I sip on tea and just relax on the couch for 20-30 minutes. I think the body prefers a bit of routine and when you train yourself to expect that sleep is coming by executing your routine.

And finally, this probably won't help you fall asleep faster but a few years ago I began using an app on my phone called "Sleep Cycle." You place it on next to your pillow and it uses your phone's accelerometer to track your REM cycles through the night. It uses an algorithm to wake you up when you are in the lightest part of your Rem cycle rather than at the same time every morning. I thought it was silly at first but I noticed that I felt much more refreshed and willing to get out of bed in the morning, never feeling groggy or like my alarm went off when I was in a deep sleep. I also noticed that my sleep quality was slowly improving over time and my energy levels and mood improved.

Nice post all round !

The app sounds pretty cool

Sleep cycle (and similar apps) are great, provided you sleep alone and don't mind the idea of your phone potentially overheating through the night lol

I thought gabapentin sucks at crossing the blood brain barrier?

you build the tolerance to phenibut way too quick..

fuck drugs. I wish our brains made us feel as good without them.

I stopped the chlorpromazine now, I'm a bodybuilder I don't want to take anti-psychotics

I asked the Dr for Gabapentin and got 300mg 3x per day ... So I'm taking all 3 900mg at night with a smoke of good weed

I think this is a better option

It wont hinder anything because I'm noticing quality changes every day and I am quite happy that my girl (who does not have any time for this shit) told me that she noticed my arms have got bigger :) Off topic a bit lol

fuck drugs. I wish our brains made us feel as good without them.

So do we all !!

I smoke a little weed before bed after sex, or when I am heavy on the train I drink I tiny bit of Prometh syrup. That shit knocks me out cold

Been doing real well with sleep lately. But, when I hit the sauce hard that changes quite a bit

I don't drink anymore

If I wanted to get drunk Gabapentin is alcohol in a tablet, hits the same recptors (Gaba-b) , I took a lot on a self distrust mission once and done some crazy shit lol

Plus I'm on Test for life now and currently running 2 others

I'm in my 20s and alcohol does not even cross my mind

I'm taking my health and bodybuilding more serious than even, yeah I take a couple GABAerics and weed but that's not a big deal in moderation and it actually helps because sleep is a big factor and I suffer badly with sleep

I smoke a little weed before bed after sex

On days when it's jag time , today was a jag day, because there's acetate, prop and phenylprop in my test after a few hours I get horny as fuck and sometimes give in but I know it lowers test so I end up with the devil on 1 shoulder saying "bang her brains out" and the angel saying "don't it will fuck your gains up " haha , I normally go with the devil
