Said I was gonna make one of these a few weeks back but didn't get around to it.

No rules ... 'cept to promo the 80's .... trash, indie, pop, cheese even Quo if yer want .... whatever you want ... in fact ;p
oh, hrmn and 1 other, best stick to just links I recon because full videos just end up making most peoples' browser's shit bricks towards the end of each page.

I'll be posting various tunes for different reasons ... genuinely decent tunes, influences, specific memory inducing tracks that take me back to a specific time, tunes/bands that got me into other bands. A lot of mine will probably be film related.

So, to start, how good was this? I fucking loved the movie loads too, watched it repeatedly on rental:

Most of the 80's was shite and I listened to nothing but reggae and funkadelic (until 1988 natch). But in 1981 we had this. And Imma keep posting it until some cunt says they love it too.

may as well be renamed 'Nile Rodgers homogenous productinthehood' ;p (I'm genuinely just on the wind up, I honestly cant dissect the influences of that even remotely)

I remember it. It was alright.

The 80's weren't all that bad ffs tho!
This just makes it in at the last minute
808 State - Pacific State

agreed about posting the video if it's particularly relevant Brimz <3

I love it n i ain't just sayin it 2 stop you posting it i remember it from back yonder .

UB40 - One in Ten

cool choice. They went from being cool to a bit naff and commercial though didnt they. They sold out.

I think this is one of the wildest most brilliant tracks of the 80s

Suicidal Tendencies- Institutionalized

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoF_a0-7xVQ

Stunning track in its day. Still sounds good IMO. I was going through simillar but not quite as extreme things at home, so it was kind of an anthem for a while.

LOL @ Rendez-vous.

I was so fucking into that when it came out ... and the whole lightshow shebang that came with it

Pile o shite if you ask me in retrospect

This thread could suck up my whole day. Dont reallky want that to happen

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Halfway to Crazy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxAp0ieGA7Q

i think this is one of their catchiest songs, great for singing along to in the car. They did not release it as a single AFAIK. Huge mistake, could have easily been their biggest hit singles ever.

OK, being serious now, I already decided New Order - Blue Monday had to be a contender for best track of the decade, before I looked at the NME article which puts it a no. 1.

I don't really agree with "best of the decade" though, because different moods and different people will favour different works.

Jean-Michel Jarre "Rendez-vous" is pretty cool too.

NME was too into The Smiths and New Order IMO. They topped every poll, and kinda forgot what had gone before which was an omission IMO, these bands allways won john peels festive 50 which he seemed to be beginning to get frustrated about. There is a light that never goes out won it one year, probably deservedly so. I always found new order quite melancholic. Fuckin good music though.

Haha, yeah it is a pile of shite, but it's about memories as much as anything else, and me and my bestie spent hours building and mending road bikes in his back garden, JMJ was part of our soundtrack. It was also "tidy-up" music before I discovered stimulants :D

Tidy up music wtf ? I missed that Genre :(

You know, music to clean up to. Kraftwerk, Jean Michel-Jarre, Anything with a driving rhythm and optimistic "melody". Devo would probably work too.
