"The Family" by Alex Gray.

20100729173429-glzpnoeroqilkhdjn.jpg

For those of you not familiar with his art... Alex Gray used to do the anatomy drawings for modern textbooks, and later learned different mystic knowledge systems around the world (eastern medicine, the vedic system, yoga, etc.) and incorporated the non-physical aspects of the human body into all of his art. He even includes the acupuncture meridians and points, which took me years to learn.

A lot of his experiences with the human body and the way he perceives it arose from LSD use, as well as studying different philosophies and religions.

"Come out!" I cried after just one lightning-fast glance out the window.
I pulled on boots, grabbed the camera and stomped down the stairway.

"What's so urgent?" asked Mr. Wonderful.

"The LIGHT!" I called. "Can't wait! Meet you in the field!"

And it was pure magic.

All those sparkles are just as they appeared in real life.

Only real life, of course, was much, much nicer!

The whole valley was out playing, even the birds.

Everything bright and beautiful and crisp, like the winey air.

Our whole world is muffled in snow. Pure magic.

Blandford Fletcher - Evicted 1887

Evicted presents the narrative of a dispossessed widow and her child, forced to leave their home while the top-hatted bailiff and the village look on.

I went and saw this at the Art Gallery in my city and instantly fell in love with it. It looks much better in the "flesh", where the effect of lighting (or lack thereof) of an overcast sky is more dramatic and apparent.

independently, it's quite cozy and welcoming. in the context of the cd music, it's somewhat terrifying :)

I like this piece because it expresses how brainwashing occurs in the military. Simple, yet elegant.
