Before I say anything else, I must congratulate everyone involved on an extremely well-organised, well-executed warehouse party. I've never been to an Electric Bliss event before, but as soon as I walked in I just though, "10 points for production". Really good work, team.
Warehouses run in the dead of winter often don't do very well (that's bitter experience talking here), but personally I really dig the freezing weather. So I walked in rugged up in six layers, ski jacket, gloves, beanie over my hat and ten-foot (no, really!) wooly scarf, mostly to amuse my friends (it worked).
I was soon stripping those layers off one by one though, because I wanted to *dance*. Reading the electricbliss website suggested that the music wasn't going to be my cup of tea - prog, breaks, house... whatever. Fortunately for me, the website was a total lie
The DJs were a pretty eclectic lot, but what I heard was a well-danceable range of power trance, harder stuff, and at the end, brilliant dark dirty psy (whoever that last DJ was, I take my hat off to him and his haircut too - that was a really different, fun closing set). It's been a while since I was at a party with music I've liked from end to end. That's probably more to do with my musical taste than a problem with parties nowadays, but it was pretty fucking cool to go and be so well catered for for once!
(Just on the psy tip for a sec - most psy people don't shuffle. But there are a subset of shufflers who like psy, and I reckon we were *all* there on Saturday night... was a grand sight at about 6am to see everyone going berserk to
Deeply Disturbed %))
[edit:
i imagine the place absolutely rocked later in the morning
Yes. Yes, it did.]
The crowd was a really pleasant mix of the hardcore warehouse junkies (many of whom I hadn't seen since the last Hyperactive), fresh young faces, and the uplifting-trance set (I think Bassic was pretty heavily promoted at 5am, which explains a lot). I didn't see too many of those tiresome Serious Ravers, just a lot of people running around having a good time (and trying to keep warm!). Crowd wasn't massive, but I think anyone who braved the sleet and rain to be there was going to be motivated to party - those who did make it were thus the distilled essence of party animal, and it was GOOD.
Regarding that
bluelight meetup, I did look for you at 3am, but the only ones I recognise are MoeBro and ButrosButroGrantos. FWIW, I was that guy about six foot six (that's Very Tall, OK?) in the ridiculous scarf, glasses, beanie and white sparkly goves. I couldn't find Moe in the dark, and Grant was apparently off on a mission somewhere at that point (I did catch up with him later) so I just wandered aimlessly for a while then gave up. Some other time, I guess.
Awesome night. Thanks again... this is probably my last party in Melbourne for a couple of years, so it was nice to go out on a high note.
