After finding himself at the constant abuse of his best friend Bobby, Marty has become fed up with his friend's twisted ways. His girlfriend, a victim of Bobby's often cruel ways, couldn't agree more and they strategize murdering Bobby, with a group of willing and unwilling participants in a small Florida town. In the midst of their plotting, they find themselves contemplating with the possible aftermath of what could happen.

This is a movie by Larry Clark and if this is anything to go by then I definitely have to see 'Kids'. While I don't consider it one of my favourite movies by any means it definitely draws you in. Just watch the stupidity of these suburban teens as they go about killing Bobby, you'll laugh and be disgusted at the same time.

  • Whats with the weird sexual tension between the so called 'godfather'and his brother and the young kids he hangs around? Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and it's just them looking up to him...
  • Why is Lisa so keen to kill Bobby? She really seems to be the one to push the killing. Is it because she loves Marty or is she pyscho? Maybe it's both...


If anyone else has seen this movie I'd like to hear your thoughts..
 
great movie, nic stahl is a terrific young actor, as is leo fitzpatrick, larry clark is a pervert and loves to have the cam linger on naked teen bodies a bit too much for my taste, lock him up i say, but let him out every couple of years to make a movie, cos for all thier faults i did enjoy this and ken park, and even kids, ( which i thought was exploitational to the point of being tabloid movie making)im sure there is a thread on bully someplace tho.

It's been awhile since I've seen this film but doesn't bobby rape lisa and her friend?
 
there had been a thread a while ago, when this first came out, but i guess it's since been purged because i can't find it. anyway, this is one of my favorite movies... and never fails to make me cry at the end.

in regards to your questions, i also noticed the weird tension between that guy and the younger kids he hung out with at the house. i interrpretted it as just "he's older, he's in charge, so respect him" sort of tension, not sexual tension. although i definitely could have been missing something. i don't remember too many details about the movie, because it's been a while since i saw it. i'll have to pull it off the shelf and watch it again sometime soon.
 
larry clark is wonderful... check out his photgraphy too- if you can find any of it. most of his books, such as tulsa, are out of print and considered too graphic to be carried by many stores
 
I Love Larry Clark movies especially Bully. really liked the cast in this film, all the young actors did a great job

i didn 't even know he did photography too until you mentioned his book... which i will definitely be getting soon. :)

he is into street and shock photography as you may be able to guess from such things as 'kids' (think junkie mom to be shooting up and so on but also awesome sensual -imo- shots)
 
I didnt notice any sexual tension between The Hitman and his brothers and friends. I saw it as Alley and Lisa all thought he was in the mafia and shit when in reality his gang was 13 year olds who stole car stereos.

Some strange sexual tension I did notice was between Bobby and his father. I mean he walks in the bathroom while hes naked and just got done raping Alley. Not to mention Bobby's obsession with gay pornography but acts homophobic.

Great movie by the way, I couldnt believe how much it reminded me about teenage relationships between their friends and family. And I live in Florida also(where the movie takes place) Lisa Connolley actually lives in my town now that she is out of prison.
 
ok, i watched the movie again today- first time in a couple of years. i think lisa was so keen on killing bobby because he was an asshole- he raped her and ally, he treated marty like shit for so many years... granted, i'm not defending her in anyway, i'm just trying to make some sense of it. i did feel really bad for ally's boyfriend and the girl with the blue hair and derrick- they got sucked into something they didn't understand. lisa was definitely portrayed to be a little crazy in this movie, and judging from the events that took place, i think that was an accurate depiction.
 
Great movie. It screws with your mind. I watched it a few years ago with a friend of mine and I must say....my outlook on things hasn't been the same since
