I have seen all of those films and they arent close to as good as Gilliam's masterpiece 12 monkeys.

taxi driver and casino arent even above average

^^^You'd certainly be in the minority with your opinions of those films, but to each their own. I don't think one film defines a director's career accomplishments. Goodfellas is not the caliber of 12 Monkeys? Well ok...different genres, but in terms of being a great film, it's debatable to say 12 Monkeys is on the same level as Goodfellas as opposed to the other way around.

Other notable Scorcese films not listed already: Kundun, Cape Fear, Last Temptation of Christ, Mean Streets, The King of Comedy, and After Hours.

I love Gilliam films, but he's not at Scorcese's level quite yet. I am looking forward to Good Omens and The Brothers Grimm though.

[I've left off Monty Python & the Holy Grail (where he was co-director) and the Crimson Permanent opening he did for Monty Python & the Meaning of Life because I only wanted to include films where he was responsible for the entire movie.]

Brazil is my favorite. First time I watched it my friend and I split a 1/4 of some great pot, and tripped out. Probably the most enjoyable cinematic experiance ever.

It is.

Nope. Dead Alive is a Gilliam flick about zombies, including one of the silliest scenes in faux horror history in which a zombie baby is punted across a playground.

Most quotable line:
"I Kick ass for the Lord!!!"
Thats early Peter Jackson.

While that line is the best, my favorite scene is the lawn mower scene.

i haven't seen enough to have a favorite. i certainly enjoyed FALILV and 12 monkeys. i don't recall "loving" baron munchausen, but liked time bandits a lot as a kid...but brothers grimm was downright awful, i thought. boring, bad script, and too slow and just not entertaining at all.

from those i have seen i may have to go with time bandits, just for the sake of nostalgia

12monkeys for sure. I love it that much that i hold in higher regard that his other also fantastic works.

but i've still yet to see tideland.

oh and it's the fisher kinG not, the finsher kinD. Please check the poll.

yes, i misspelled "King." i posted about this in Staff as soon as i saw my mistake, since i don't know how to (or whether i am able to) edit poll choices. maybe senior staff will be able to help. i take full responsibility for this error, and will resign my mod post here as soon as a replacement can be found. ;)

I voted for Brazil since it's one of my all-time faves of any director. Still, Twelve Monkeys seems like Gilliam's most succesful effort at directing in his own style. The DVD for Twelve Monkeys has a great director's commentary along with an excellent documentary where you get to see Gilliam walk off the set along with disagreements he had with Bruce Willis over the tinieset of details.

They're all good films, though I haven't seen Tideland yet, which oddly enough seems to be taking a critical beating.

I couldn't get through Brazil. I feel like I "got" what they were trying to do, but it all just seemed so hokey. I only tried to watch it once, so maybe I should give it another shot.

the brutal satire in Brazil makes me equally want to laugh and cry.

NO! i take it back! See? i've dismantled the cross. and see, i'm pouring the petrol down the drain.

but i think i'll keep that lighter.

please stay

I voted for Fear & Loathing, but honestly Brazil and Baron von Munchausen are nearly as or just as good. I loved 12 Monkeys too but I don't think it was one of his best, even Time Bandits was better.

What is this all about?
That's your receipt for your husband.
Thank you. And this is my receipt for your receipt.

fear and loathing in las vegas gets it without a doubt in my mind. i absolutely love it. i think i've probably seen it about 4 times now, and i could easily watch it at least a couple of times more. i was actually thinking about it today, and i was thinking that due to the aformentioned reason i should really buy myself a copy of it on dvd soon. like really soon, cos i actually feel like watching it right now :\

the commentary of hunter s thompson is AWESOME.

also the documentary is pretty funny too. he gets all pissed when he drops some weed in the grass as he is rolling a joint.
