I know there's allready a FAQ on this subject, but it doesn't answer the questions I see day after day.
I'm on an antidrepressant, can I roll? Chances are, no. If you're on an SSRI (e.g. Citalopram (Celexa), Escitalopram (Lexapro), Fluoxetine (Prozac), Fluvoxamine (Luvox), Paroxetine (Paxil) and Sertraline (Zoloft)) if you take MDMA, you will not feel much of anything. If your on a Dual Uptake inhibitor (Duloxetine (Cymbalta)) You won't be able to roll. If you're on a SNRI (Venlafaxine (Effexor)) you might be able roll, it seems to vary from person to person. If you are on an SDRI like Bupropion (Wellbutrin) your roll should not be effected much at all. It is not especially dangerous to take MDMA and these antidepressants and MDMA at the same time (i.e. you wont get serotonin syndrome), but don't be disapointed if nothing happens.
If you are on an MAOI (phenelzine (Nardil); tranylcypromine (Parnate)) do not take MDMA, this is a life-threatening combination.
Mirtazapine (Remeron) will effect your roll, it will alter the way it feels, but it may or may not lessen the strength of the roll.
Unlike the antidepressant effects, the MDMA-blocking effects of SSRIs only take one or two pills to start.
Okay, I can't roll because I'm on an antidepressant, can I just stop taking the drugs for next weekend, so I can roll? Again, chances are, no. Most antidepressants hang around in your body for several days, and take days and days to clear from your system. Also, long term use of antidepressants decrease the amount of serotonin transporter (SERT) in your brain. The SERT is how MDMA releases serotonin; less SERT, less serotonin will be release.
Okay, so I need to quit my antidepressant to roll, how long after I quit can I roll If you're taking antidepressants, you're on them for a reason. You need to think, is rolling worth my symptomes coming back? Also, quiting antidepressants can cause serious withdrawal symptomes. If you're going to discontinue your antidepressant, you need to talk to your doctor about doing so. But after you've quit, and your withdrawal symptomes are over, how long before you can roll? I am not awear of any scientific liturature looking at the return of SERT after the cessation of chronic antidepressant use, however anecdotal information supplies that you should wait somewhere between a week and a month for the rolls to return to full strength.
