I am neither a great photographer nor a serious one--I'm usually armed with my phone as far as equipment goes; but I do love to grow flowers and when they bloom I love trying to take close-ups of them. Toothpastedog once called this flower porn and, it's true--they are pretty sexy. I thought it would be a good way to share all of our gorgeous photos of flowers (or foliage). So, to start this off here is a flower that I did not grow but it has been my trusty reminder that life is good and beautiful and always moving during my convalescence from this damned broken bone. It will be dead by tomorrow so I wanted to capture a little of the beauty and record it. It was part of a bouquet sent to me by a late BLer's parents which makes it doubly special.

I hope everyone that loves taking photos will find some good content to share!
 
I like it a lot, herby, I can almost smell the wonderful fresh fragrance of the flower.

When spring come to my neck of the woods I'll post some I come across. Thanks for sharing :)

I took that pic at my moms house a few years ago. We have had morning glories every year since I was a kid.
 
i've only photographed flowers a few times. i have this photo, taken with my kindle fire.

 
I went back and forth on which picture to submit for the new flower photo contest... this came in first so I'm gonna cross-post. It's a photo of some mountain laurel flowers in various stages of maturity. One of the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen:

This was a close second place, it's a photo of a certain type of lily. My girlfriend and I were hiking and at one point the sun hit a certain angler and they appeared to be glowing. I laid down underneath one and took a picture looking up.

I'm in heaven. These are all magnificent!

@Sigmond: talk about sensual! The water droplets on the petals really brought to mind the very first time I held my first baby right after birth. I have never felt so connected to the fragility and the beauty of life as in that moment. Somehow, those flowers brought that moment right back.

@Mal: two things about the morning glories. Those are my favorites--the Heavenly Blue morning glories. I used to try to photograph them with film and they always came out more purple than they actually are. Now that everything is digital you can get the true color. Your mom or parents or all of you must have amazing gardening skills and great soil. Whenever I grow the Heavenly Blues they are rather skimpy vines and they would never grow tall enough to climb onto the roof! The others that I grow (Grandpa Otts and the perennial Blue Dawn )would take over the whole town if I let them.:)
 
Thanks herby...I will definitely pass along the compliment to my mom. I don't think any of the talent passed down to me...I managed to kill my succulent that I keep in my bedroom despite them being one of the easiest plants to take care of. :(

I'm just happy to have provided herby some good flower porn :)
 
For those of you who haven’t already, if ya’ll don’t also make submissions in this round’s LAVA photo contest I’m gonna have to do it for you FYI ;)

It’s kinda weird, but I’m getting the feeling my love for flowers is connected with my career goal of working with kids and parents in the NICU... long term goals, right?
