Myrcene may be a non-cannabinoid psychoactive that is found in Cannabis (Russo, EB). Russo bases his claim on the fact that hops has been shown to be psychoactive, as hops contains myrcene. The Bisset and Wichtl reference in the Russo quote is an encyclopedia on herbs, and the hops entry had the following reference, where a clinical trial was performed on hops. I'm interested in obtaining this paper. This is interesting because it..
-provides some insight into the non-cannabinoid activity of Cannabis
-suggests that one may be able to enhance his high by co-administering hops or another myrcene container with Cannabis. This is the origin of the idea that mangoes will enhance one's high, as mangoes apparently contain significant quantities of myrcene.
-the efficacy of hops itself as a mild psychoactive

This is the research paper. The reference in the Bisset and Wichtl reference was heavily abbreviated, but luckily I was able to find the full title via Google.

Myrcene is a recognized sedative as part of hops preparations (Humulus lupulus), employed to aid sleep in Germany (Bisset and Wichtl, 2004). Furthermore, myrcene acted as a muscle relaxant in mice, and potentiated barbiturate sleep time at high doses (do Vale et al., 2002). Together, these data would support the hypothesis that myrcene is a prominent sedative terpenoid in cannabis, and combined with THC, may produce the ‘couch-lock’ phenomenon of certain chemotypes that is alternatively decried or appreciated by recreational cannabis consumers.
