post if you have, I was out wooffing this year and it was like the best thing I've ever done with my life, so please, if your familiar with wwoofing, I'd love to discuss it.

Hardly an EE post, you'll probably get alot more replies in SO.

Yeah I did a good bit of woofing in australia. I have to agree with you it was one of the best things I've ever done with my life. You won't find any better way of getting of the beaten track and meeting local people when your travelling.

I lived with a diverse spectrum of people, from academics building an eco villege, to what essentially is a 're-birthing' cult. I couldnt even begin to tell you about that group of crazy folk! I had to leave fairly promptly from that place actually.

One of the best times I had doing it, was living in a beatiful old house that was situated on the top of a geographic basin, surrounded by a forest. The family were absolutely lovely and had two adorable little girls. I learned an awful lot from them.

One thing I never did was go to a nudist woofing house. I always thought that would be fucking hilarious, more so just to tell the lads than anything else :)

ah cool, I was wwoofing in the south of Spain, Seirra Nevada, granada...... and finally the tiny moutain village of pitres. We stayed with a Japanese family, they were the coolest people ever, gave us our own two story house in exchange for labour. They had a daughter, same age as me, I got with her really well. We also met a guy that owns a school of traditional spanish building (Gabi), he had the best hashish I've ever smoked, donald, an architecht (sp?) and interesting guy, and a professor of comparitive philosophy (Julian), Yukiko a ceramic artist and takida who owned a cool company that made ballet shoes, Noriko the daughter is becoming an arcitecht (sp?), they were truly the coolest people ever, we've invited back for next year and are possibly going to Morroco with them, Gabi and Gusto want us to try out the hashish there.

It really did change me for the better. Oh and some advice, just avoid Germany.

would you be so kind to fill the rest of us in? I'm getting images of you barking like a dog or something and im sure thats not right

wwoof = willing workers on organic farms

Its an organisation, in the broadest loosest term of the word. All they do is maintain a directory of families that are willing to put you up and feed you in exchange for 3-4 hours (unpaid) work a day.

My ex Girlfriend from Sweden did this. She loved it. I'd love to try it oneday. When I have the chance! A long time off yet :)

That's gotta be the lamest idea I've ever heard. Why on earth would you want to work on a farm.

well they give you a place to stay for mabye up to a month and three large meals a day, so you get to stay in a cool country of your choice for ages, you can also arrange for other work in different contries so you could be away for even 6 months and it might cost you less than £500 (£500 being away for a good while)if you plan it carefully enough. My friends sister was doing that at the same time as us and she only took £200 and was away for a month and a one week. http://www.wwoof.org Check it out, it's deffinetly worth it.

My friends and I were really lucky and were allowed to stay in our own house that should have cost us £1800 euros but cost nothing in exchange for doing a bit of digging and painting, they were great people. You can go work in some really crazy countries like Hawaii if you want, but you have to get in touch waaay in advance to get a place there. It's far from lame.

One of the villages I stayed in has a cannibas festival every year and alot
of the locals grown their own smelly to compete for a covetted price. Is that not reason enough? :)

The organisation is about as loose as the places you'll find yourself working in/on. None of the places I woofed in actually qualified or resembled a farm of any description. The common factor amongst them all was that they had a keen interest in healthy organic food/living. When you're travelling for any decent period money/budget becomes an issue, as does bang for your buck! You won't find a better way of meeting decent people with local knowledge and notching up the 'exerpeince' counter in exchange for some varied work.

I know someone who did this and had the time of his life. He's still friends with many of the people he met. Sounds like a great way to see other countries, and to escape a 9-5 existence for the right person.

Travel The World

So after alot of soul searching and deep thinking on wtf to do with my life i've decided to spent about 6 months to a year travelling the world.

I would be interested to hear about anyones experiences doing this.
Any problems you had,preparation-visa's,innoculations etc.
What you did in terms of work and accomadation.
Unmissable places and places to avoid.

Just anything you think relevant.
Thanks Y'all

How old are you? STA travel does a thing if you're under 24 I think where you pay a few thousand dollars and can travel all the way around the world in a year, as many flights as you want, you just cant go backwards.

Not that I know of. I have two friends in England who did it and they stayed in Thailand for like half their trip.
