Dancing between styles. How do find yourself?

Hi all,
I love electronic music by God. Now I've tried and I've bloody tried but I simply cannot dance to drum'n'bass, although I love it.
After a steady diet of psy trance for so long I've found it a little strange dancing to some other styles.
You may say 'let the music move you' and you may be right, but do you get so comfortable that when you're beckoned to change your stride you find it hard?
Fuck...I don't know!
Love
Barney

I'm lost. I've gone to look for me. Should I return before I get back, tell me to wait.

I'm the exact opposite, I have no trouble dancing to drum n bass, but stick me in a room with techno and I have no idea what to do.

You don't dance to d'n'b, you shuffle to it

But I know what you mean about getting used to one dancing style, I've often been in this situation. I must say though, nothing beats shuffling to d'n'b

Don't have all that much problem changing styles. As the BPM's rise I slowly change from shuffling to bouncing. Its really just the same style that becomes more agressive as the beats rise. There is one exception which is Happy Hardcore and Gabba. With this music its more of a shake than a bounce.

Aaahh.. you sound like me! Before I got the hang of d&b...
Fuck it puzzled me, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how these people could dance so well to such an irregular sound.
I tried my hand at Grooverider, and it was ok, but everytime I'd get the hang of it the fucking beat would change and fuck it all up!
I dunno how it happened, actually i think it was the wizz lol... but i went and saw LTJ, and it all just clicked, and now - i enjoy dancing to d&b almost more than anything (except for some really funky ass tech-house or electro). I've recently just discovered my knack for shaking my ass to hip hop (which my friends have dubbed Mona's Booty Dance), the way i dance to trance or progressive house is completely different... and fucked if i can dance to NRG or hard house... its just too bloody fast and all my wobbly bits can't keep up! LOL. If i were a tight toned bouncy little raver chicky it might be a different story

Anyway, point of the matter is... I'll give everything a go and most sounds i can dance to, i think its something that's in you (years of dance training can help too).. but the easiest way to learn is by watching others! You can be assured they won't mind (most likely they'll be flattered).. and then go home and practice in the mirror

.. next time you're in the middle o a throbbing crowd of people all pulsating to the beat... just close your eyes (and i know you don't want to hear this) and go with it. Spasm away. It works for me!

yer, i know what ya mean. im used to dancing to trance, and i went to a latin funk house night at globe.. the music was different, but good, but i didnt have a clue how to dance to it

Yeh, Im used to dancing to psy, I just jump around and do whatever, the beat is simple. Other styles I generally take my que from those around me.
When I was visiting in Melbourne I went to two tribes, I found myself attempting a shuffle-like dance

and that is not really me, I guess I let the 'vibe' of the crowd 'guide' me heheh.

I think Dave Edwards said this first, but the thing you have to remember with drum and bass is :"Fuck shuffle, just bop"
I find if im really getting into my dnb i start doing these moves and i dont know where the fuck they come from, then i try again and look like an unco, also depends what drugs im on. sometimes i jump, yeah i know its weird, not up and down, i cant explain it
........yeah..but all four to the floor stuff i dance the same
except hardcore, but i havent whipped out the scissor step for a while

i LOVE my dnb but yeah, i found that sort of had to develop a new style to dance to it too (actually i find my dancing style changes depending on what i'm dancing to in a BIG way, also depends on amount of floor space i got too). i call it my dnb bounce, i sort of bend a bit at the knees and land up on my toes - much like the infamous brissy bounce
only prob is it takes quite a bit of energy to maintain and last time i was dancing to dnb very hard (while straight) on a concrete floor i really fucked my ankle - sprained the ligaments in it and ripped all the micro-fibres - almost missed carl cox coz of that (not happy jan, NOT happy) but i just strapped it and danced anywayz!!!
but yeah - i love watching people dance to dnb coz you're alwayz guaranteed different styles!!

One word... Gabber.
I didn't think anyone would be able to dance to it. But it can be done - I saw it with my own eyes last night! So I now have a NEW challange...
Bring on the meth...

can swap between hardcore/gabba to breaks and drum n bass wayyy easy
although sometimes i find it difficult to dance to trance after a hardcore session hehe

hmm... it might be hard at first but i feel that if we are really listening to the music and expressing ourselves, it just happens naturally, even though the product may not 'look dnb' (or techno, trance, hiphop, ragtime jazz, samoan haka, papuan tribal etc etc etc). as long as we're having fun, who tf cares?

The transition I have found dificult up until now has been going from trance/techno to handbag house in clubs however now i just dance the same way in both and care less about the looks because I know they secretly want to be me.

Be aware of every sound...
Its all about honour, get honour, stay honour and if you cant come in her come honour.

you see, i struggle the other way. i really struggle to make the transition from handbag hardcore to the more difficult techno styles. i get some really srange looks in teriyaki with my little booty shuffle thang going on... somebody help me! show us your kookai!
and the ballroom styles aren't going too well at the big parties either... damn you Prometheus for instilling in me a love of dancing clasped to the chest of another! *sigh* it's all a bit too much really.... adapting ballroom to the pumping tunes of yaki....
but seriously... handbag house is impossible to dance to. maybe i need to get me some of those goddamned heels!

Yay for yaya..
When I was at Supernature I saw a couple of dudes just running on the spot with massive grins on their face and I thought those dudes are probably having the most fun of anyone here. Who really cares if you're not doing the prescribed dance for the style of music. Actually if everyone is dancing the same it gets rather boring really. I reckon everyone should just funk the floor up however they feel they should. Remember that if everyone looks like they're having a blissful time doing what they are doing it will rub off on others.
If only I could be at an event where absolutely everyone is dancing (including the DJ bouncing up and down) just for a little while, then I would be in heaven.

Bass Junky is at one with all music. You name it, Bass can dance to it.
Try me at Kryal, I wont dissappoint......

What about experimental-ambient-beeps-and-squeeks-with-no-beat, how do you reckon you'd go to that BJ?
