There's been way too much unnescessary posting going on around here lately which we've let slide, but it's time to pull people back into line, I've been meaning to do it for a while but just havn't had the time...
I'm calling for everyone to think about what they're posting and decide if it's really nescessary, do you really need to post every single thought that enters your head?
Also we've said it before and we'll keep saying it, make use of the search engine, there's no need to go starting new threads when there's other perfectly useful threads available... At the moment we've got about 3 birthday threads, 3 lolly threads and 3 photo's threads...
Now we've got no problem with different birthday threads for different people, but we don't need one thread proposing the idea of a birthdays web site, and another thread actually implementing the idea...
Onto the photo's threads... I started this thread so that we could have a collection of all the photos taken at the many events we attend, there's no need to go starting new threads for every single event...
Here's a couple of threads I want everyone to have a read of, even if you've read them before, go and read them again:
Bluelight Server is Over Loaded Again - Think Before You Post
Attn all posters.
While you may think the first one is no longer relevant because we have a new server, it is still relevant because of the parts of the thread which deal with the many other issues related to the use of this site.
And while we're at it, go and read the guidelines again too...
Basically, this board is sliding too far from what it was originally intended for, and while growth and development is fine, while we socialise we can't afford to lose site of the intent of this site, to provide people with information, not entertainment...
Feel free to reply with any comments, any additions to anything I've said...
{edit: Maybe I should have said constructive comments, shank, yours isn't helpful...}

I think I'm leaving the BL community for a while. Johnboy, keep fighting. To all my mates, I'll see ya's soon. To everyone that HAS thought before they've posted, and have offered me invaluable input over the last 7 month, thanks.
(Feel free to delete this Admins... I'm not watching).

FrEdDo!!! Why are you leaving?????
C'mon you know you don't want to!
Make sure you say hello every now and then at least!

one more thing:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO REPLY TO EVERY THREAD!!
that one's aimed at those guys who seem reply to every thread but add absolutely no value.
Freddo - hope to see you on BL again soon..

Shut up. If I wanted to listen to an arsehole, I would have farted.

Well I have seen the error of my ways and will be more sensible now..

Damn, Tars... Thank God. I was just about to post something like this myself, and look like a bitchy BLer who ain't a mod. People, it pains me to say this, but BL looked better when we had server problems. Discussion was more relevant, intelligent and generally better. We are all guilty of screwing around here (myself included) but please... Lets just leave the sillyness for our new IRC channel (which incedentally is #bluelight on austnet) Lately this place has started to look like *gasp* US social. Us Aussies have always prided ourselves as maintaining a forum that is a cut above the large general social forum in terms of general intellectual discussion. Bah, elitist, but true. Please, for the love of all we hold dear here... Keep pointless crap out of this forum. If you want to see what decay can happen to a messageboard, then look no further than RDC at raves.com.au (no offence to those who frequent it). What has always been my attraction to bluelight has been that it is sensible, well moderated and (to quote serotone) in white and grey.
How many threads do we need on Utopia? Wild Things 2 (the biggest BL convention to date) only had two organising threads... The second was only due to the first crashing. Undercover cops? Search function! Pointless posts about whatever crap is on your mind at 4:30am... Not neccesary! Keep topics to those which contain info of stimulating discussion for a wide audience. Please, we have already lost many BL 'old-hands' due to dissolusionment at the current state of things who have much to offer.
Lets keep this place in its deserved place of meeting point of the higher educated scene/drug citizens, who share their knowlege with each other and those who are new... Like it always has been. What makes this place truly valuble is the fact that each individual has their own areas of personal expertise to add to the group in a positive fashion. This place has been a tight-knit cohesive community for a long time, and many good things have come out of here. I am proud to be a part of it. Our moderators & administrators (salute these unpaid dedicated people) have put alot of work into this place, we owe it to them and ourselves to work to uphold the reputation of this place. Adhere to the ethos of what this site upholds, or we are just going to be another craphole.
Sorry to sound like a pretentious bastard, but this has been on my mind a fair bit lately. Keep the unnesentials on IRC, where incedentally you will see me often.

Agree 100% Tars. Even tho I'm a relative newbie, I'm finding myself increasingly pissed off with some of the threads lately...
One thing I have noticed from lurking on the US social is that PhreeX and co are not shy about stepping in, locking a thread early and referring the poster to FAQs... mebbe this would help.

Tars, -Thoth well said. I've been popping my head in a few thread and shaking my head disapprovingly, but I haven't been around much to see whether it worked or not (threads move quickly in the social forum). I'm glad you mentioned this Tars, it needed to be done. I don't mind the odd social thread, but to me it's got to have some relevance to either drug or party culture (i think) I don't want to hear about potato wedges and monkies!
anyway I can't add contructive at the moment so.
here here!
bump.

agreed. And yes VURT, mt pointless posting has ceased since I have IRC to chat with bluelighters and dribble shit to.
*sorry Tars*
I STILL LUVS YA! See you guys on IRC!

i was going to reply to this thread but thought i would be wasting space, so i didnt bother...

Well said Tars and Thoth.

Thoth,
Don't think for a minute that just because you don't have 'Moderator' written under your name, that you can't jump in and say what you think regarding the way the social forum is operating.
You can! Whenever you want! And we the moderators will be very grateful.
smile.gif

Like Tars, I've been flat out lately. It's been very difficult to keep up with things in social - it moves soooo quickly. At times like this we look to you guys to act responsibly and oversee the forum on our behalf.
Bluelight's not hierarchical. Be autonomous. Jump in and do your bit. We'll love you for it!

this issue is also touchy at the moment for various reasons.. that herald sun article for example http://www2.bluelight.ru/ubb/Forum35/HTML/000612.html people are watching !
bluelight's supposed to be about drug information and harm reduction..
no need to repeat whats already been said here, but i just think there really needs to be an improvement in the quality of posts being made at the moment. please guys, be responsible.. its not too hard!
no one wants to be the thought police around here.. we shouldnt have to be.
and yeah, thanks for that muzby. not a good thread at all, that one.
