Oooh, based on the novel, I presume? (first link doesn't work btw)

Sounds great! BTW, the Nirvana song "Scentless Apprentice" is based on the same novel :)

i never read the book, even tho several people have recommended to me. perhaps this will be good motivation :)

I was gonna start a thread on this the other day :D

Anyway, the story has always interested me. I attempted to read the novel a few times, but I just kept getting the characters mixed up because their names are all so similar :\ . Anyway, it looks like it'll be worth looking out for.

A fantastic novel... can't wait to see the adaptation. :)

I read this book last summer at the recommendation of dr seuss and alasdair but had no idea there was a film in the works. :D:D

Yeah, and it unfortunately disappointed a bit. I'd love to read the book, though.

it wasn't really all that boring, but it wasn't all that good either...

basically it wasn't a waste of money, but I didn't leave the cinema raving about it.

i watched it finally and it was 'just ok'. the book is so wonderful, atmospheric and full of detail they couldn't hope to do it justice and they really didn't.

do yourself a favour and read the book :)

worth is such a subjective call. if you've read the book, you may be disappointed. if not, i would give it a somewhat enthusiastic recommendation.

i guess i should have phrased the question better. i have read the book, i wondered if someone who has not read the book would enjoy the movie. but you managed to answer regardless :)

is the book just an emulation of balzac? because that's the feeling i got watching the film.

for the arty people out there, tykwer has put together some incredible scenes. his style continues to improve imo. there is a lot of down time plowing through the mundane story, but he definitely peppers it with some cinema magic.

I don't like reading novels so when this DVD came out, I went and got it.
