Choices for best:
Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb (I actually had no idea it was that song until like weeks after I'd heard it)
Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit (while the original captures a lot of the anger and apathy of youth, I think Tori's version is a lot more haunting and sad)
Tiny Tim - It's A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock and Roll (because Tiny Tim rocks, get fucked if you disagree)
Marilyn Manson - Working Class Hero (Even though I
Manson LOTS, I generally don't care much for Manson doing covers because they're usually lazy and easy...he does a really good version of this song though, brings out a lot of bitterness)
Placebo - Johnny and Mary (this is an old Robert Palmer song...I never really thought about the lyrics until I heard Placebo sing it)
Mr Floppy - Wuthering Heights (because it's hell funny)
Cake - I Will Survive (it's just cool)
Johnny Cash - Hurt (I heard this version before the Nine Inch Nails one and thought that Cash did such an awesome job of it that the NIN version must have been the cover. While I now know different, and appreciate the NIN version for its awesomeness, the Johnny Cash cover still blows me away)
Choices for worst:
Britney Spears - I Love Rock and Roll (stay away from the classics, bitch)
Shannon Noll - What About Me? (see above times one million)
Madonna - American Pie (see above; the only thing that salvages this track at all is that it can lay claim to the worst rap EVAR which makes the whole exercise kind of hilarious)
