Hello everyone,

diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Very low interest in things, racing thoughts, hopelessness, negative thinking. You know the deal.

ive been on sertraline (an SSRI) for 3 weeks and it has levelled me out somewhat and stopped my anxiety. No more dark crying spells or panic attacks.

unfortunately I think it has reduced my empathy and love and joy somewhat. A kind of emotional blunting.

Im considering switching to Mirtazapine instead as I don't want to live in a disinterested haze where I can't feel for other people.

has anyone experi need the kind of....SSRI apathy I'm describing and made such a switch?

Hi John and welcome. I suffer from GAD as well. I tried Zoloft years ago and it turned me into a Zombie. I have no experience with Mitrazapine.

Others will chime in with more help, this is a great community. They didn't offer a low dose Benzo like Ativan, Klonopin? They are addictive drugs, but taken responsibly will stop the racing thoughts and negativity.

Would you be able to elaborate on the zombie feeling for me? I would love to pin down what is me, what is depression and what is Zoloft. Hearing other experiences may help me do so.

Mirtazapine has a lot less side effects than other antidepressants. The only real reason I didn't keep taking it was because it gave me strange dreams/nightmares and I was already taking xanax. It did help with my mood tho iirc so I think it would be at least worth a try.
