i have been on 2mg of Xanax Xr a day to keep my generalized anxiety at bay and 2mg of regular Xanax incase because even with this medication being very effective I still have panic attacks,. My problem is my xr and regular pills come in separate bottles and my doctor changed my prescription dosage at a different time so theyre falling out about 20 days apart instead of me picking both up at the pharmacy at the same timesame day, because of this I'm falling short and I'm not sure whaty to do. ive talked with my doctor and he said I just have to try to concerve them because of insurance purposes but I don't understand how I'm supposed to run so short on my medication, and end up in withdrawl or horrible flashbshbacks and anxiety, ive already had 2 seizures over the the last last 4 months, in fact my doctor was pissed off and almost cut me off from my 4 year long Xanax prescription when a urine screen came up void of Xanax last time and lectured me on how dangerous it was to be without my meds which I'm very aware of, I apologize for my bitching and bad grammer I'm new to this sight and I can barley use the internet you guys are my last hope, anyway I was just wondering if anyone might know a solution? or have a suggestion...anything would be much appreciated thank you!8o:?

Atabawayfrombarett - I have a few questions before I can help with a solution. I'm confused as to why you are running out. They're each a month long script correct? Are you taking more than prescribed? In theory, you shouldn't be running out of either early. Also, how did you test show no Xanax in your system, was this from running out? Sorry if those answers are obvious, I may be missing something.

I'm so sorry you're going through this - I know how bad Xanax withdrawal is. I was on it for 10 years (prescribed) and got cut off cold turkey when I went to rehab for alcohol. I was in antisiezure meds for months and they didn't always help so I had tons of siezures. The whole thing was extremely traumatic.

Yeah I am not understanding this either. You just take your regular dose everyday and then fill the script after thirty days. If your doctor prescribed a different type, you should have been able to discontinue the first script and pickup the second script the day he wrote it.

hey thanks for the inputguys im still having some troubles but forthose who dont understand my doctor changed my dose a while ago so long story short i am supposed to be picking up 2 bottles at a time so i can take 2mgs of xr and 2mgs of regular a day the problem is the 2 different bottles are coming out about 20 days apart

Okay so you get the Xanax XR and IR's at different times and are running out? If i'm right that sounds like the medication is not doing it's job and no doctor should tell you to try and conserve your Benzos by not taking a dose of your meds if you are supposed to take them on a regular basis.

Have you tried any longer acting Benzos such as Valium or Clonazepam? Because of the short half life of Alprazolam it doesn't keep anxiety at bay for long and i have heard from people on Xanax XR that they still get peaks and valleys on the med. I have been on Clonazepam for a good decade now and i often forget to take my dose for a day because i don't get any kind of withdrawals for about 2 days. Most people i know who run into trouble with Benzos have done so on Xanax for the most part.

hey paranoid android thanks a lot for this! that's exactly what I was thinking when he told me to conserve??? lol and I was originally on clonazepam and I went to Israel for a year and they switched me to Xanax and it was working at first so my doctor here in jersey said he wanted me to stay on that since it was working idlike to be switched back to klonopin but he keeps telling me I shouldn't just keep switching but I'm going to my appointment today and I'm going to really try again for the k pins thanks for the help!!

I took the xr formulation of xanax for a while. It was not particularly helpful to me.

The most therapeutic benzo for me was klonopin. It always worked much better for me than the xanax xr. If you are prescribed PRN xanax IR I would try to slowly take less. Maybe instead of taking 1mg at a time when you are having a panic attack, try .5mg and if you are still feeling anxiety after a half hour try the other .5mg.
