So apparently someone has traded in my lost driver license for a new one in another state... Lord knows what they are doing with my identity, though my credit is shot anyway.

I also lost my social security card, and the catch-22 is you can't replace it without a driver license, nor can you replace a driver license without a social security card.

I blew through about $30,000 since relapsing last Jan, and sold or lost all the possessions I love- nice watch, laptop, phone, etc. Not to mention the far more painful separation from my loved ones.

At least I haven't drank for a week, but I'm on suboxone. About to go to sleep in a shelter. And I was living in a beautiful house this time last year.

Nowhere to go but up, I suppose.

You can replace your social security card without a drivers license :) .

For a replacement card, you can provide stuff like hospital/certified medical records, birth records, non-driver ID card, passport, etc. I even read that in extenuating circumstances you can go to a SSA office and they will accept something like a Medicaid card or student ID along with your physical presence.

I'm not an expert obviously, but here is where I got my info: https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf

That's a lot of money to lose in such a short amount of time. Do you have any contact with any family members right now, or close friends? Financial stress/loss is devastating, but as you said, personal relationships are more important. I don't know the details of your situation, but try to salvage all you can.

Above all else, keep your mind strong. You've managed not to drink for a week. Your "nowhere to go but up" attitude is exactly what you need man. Look at everyday as an opportunity to improve and rebuild your life.

If you need support or just a place to chill, you're always welcome here.

Thanks a lot for the response.

I feel much better today, another day with no alcohol or hard drugs.

Thx, yes my plan is to collect birth certificate and everything else I possibly can, and go to SSA office for replacement card. Then the driver license. And I'm definitely replacing passport, lost ages ago, as a backup.

And yes, I will build my life back up, I've done it before. With a little support and help. The city I live in has tons of services, and I tend to build strong momentum towards the positive, just as I build it towards the negative.

I'm 2 yrs away from a bachelor's in Comp Sci, with a 4.0 gpa, and have already transferred all my credits towards a uni in my current city. I'll get there, or just look for work again without the degree.

I just need to take sometime to deal with my health and substance issues, luckily I have a bit of income as it'll prob be 6 mo's to a year before I'm fully functional again.

I did two years in community college with the intention of transferring to a university. But I never ended up transferring. So I really just wasted two years, and it's been long enough now that all the credits I got are worthless.

Do all you can to finish that degree man! I regret that I let drugs get in the way of mine.
