Everyone has done the 'best drug films' overall, for the comeup, the peak the comedown etc. However, after seeing one particular drug based film, I thought it would be pernient to ask.

What do you consider to be the worst drug film of all?

Wether it be because it freaked you out or it completely missed the point or reality about drugs. For me personally the film that inspired this is "Altered States". A film made in 1980 starting William Hurt, directed by Ken Russell and based on the book of the same name by Paddy Chayefsky.

The premiss of this movie is very promising, "Research scientist Eddie Jessup (William Hurt) believes other states of consciousness are as real as everday reaity. Using sensory deprivation, then adding powerful, hallucinogenic drugs, he explores these altered states... and endrures experiences that make makness seem a blessing."

Unfortunatly it fell on it's face completely when he turned into a monkey man as he regressed back to the original creation of man. While in monkey form he proceeds to run about the local zoo and wakes up having devoured half a gazelle. That's one powerful shroom trip. From there it only gets worse as some of you fellow unfortunates possibly already know.

Are there any others we should be warned about?

Cuddles :)

Altered states was a classic!

For me it would have to be "Go"
In typical Hollywood bullshit style they had to go and inject an underlying social message in the film that drugs are inherently a bad thing that always leads to trouble.

For me it's gotta be Sorted with Jason Donoven the story line so stupid and the whole movie is just a bunch of excuses to show people taking drugs

LOL you're the only people I know who have EVER admitted to watching a Jason Donovan MOVIE...

BT ;)

quotes from Altered States:

"I hunted, killed and ate a small gazelle. It was the most satisfying experience of my life."

"The One Truth is a tangible entity and I'm going to find the fucker."

i love that movie.. it's funny and the trip scenes are pretty twisted.

my nominee for worst drug movie is Blow.. completely irredeemable except for Paul Rubens (Pee-Wee Herman).. watch the DVD for all the deleted scenes where director Ted Demme (who later died playing a charity basketball tournament while high on coke) tries to add an irrelevant helicopter to practically every shot.. remember kids, the quality of a movie is inversely proportionate to number of helicopters in it..

hand's down....GO.

"this is grade-A, pharmaceutical X, none of that 'erbal crap. one tab, per headbanger"

what a wank.

Any lame Home n Away or Neighbours 'pakaged' drug message episode...
Drugs will always be portrayed poorly when you consider their main target audience, i guess.

'yeah man its like a wave'

'Its only good if you smoke alot of pot with it'

hahaa, hands down is would have to be 'GO'

I bet they used information from the media and anti-drug groups to make that film

DISASTER!!

As far as a mindless piece of fluff goes, GO wasn't that bad. But yeah, in terms of accuracy of drug references and realism it left a lot to be desired. The vegas bit in the middle with Simon was pretty cool, but that's about it.

Seen that movie forgot whats its called.... snow or white or something about that successful corprate business man, James Wood, feeling into the cocaine world and ended up in the slums ..... feel from the high life to the slums.... all because of his addiction to coke......

Considering none of us here REALLY know much about coke (not nearly as much as about meth/MDMA etc), and especially know close to nothing about things involved in upper echelon dealing/smuggling/trafficking/etc, "Blow" is a FUCKING GOOD MOVIE.

"Go" on the other hand is pretty lame in terms of accuracy, but was quite enjoyed by me nevertheless at the time :)

Exactly what i was going to suggest

And how could i forget "basketball diaries"... although, i think leonardo diCaprio's poor acting had a lot to do with it.

yup, GO. Everything from the over-sized pills, to the dealer saying the pills wasn't any of that "herbal rave shit" ROFL

i haven't had any herbal rave pills lately.. have you?

that dude's unrealistic roll where he is just sitting there hallucinating... ah well.
