If you did some research about how a drug such as morphine is extracted from poppies and converted to diamorphine and you had some glassware apparatus and various chemicals that could potentially be used for this, is it possible for the police to prosecute you if they seize your computer and equipment?

In the United States you could be charged with conspiracy to manufacture, a thought crime.

I know a manufacture charge for a schedule I is more serious than a distribution charge for the same substance. When I was arrested for distribution of a schedule I narctotic they said it was 10-25 years for each count. (a guilty plea would incur less of course, as I plead guilty and am only looking at 1-5years realistically for multiple counts)

^^^what the above said somewhere. It doesnt matter where you are, well I guess some countries the laws are differant but if you have the glassware an other stuff needed in the morphine extraction process and yadayda the police could confiscate everything and you could be prosecuted for intent to manufacture, and in some cases they can even try an pin intent to distribute also which would make things worse. Ive seen it happen, you have all the shit and if not maybe a little morp or whatever they can try sadly...

but whatever happend to the "probable cause" to search your place in the 1st place???:\

that was a great link!!!!

i wish that guy well, we needs lots of people with stainless steels balls like him!!!!

^ Maybe so, but from the legal perspective he is a fuckup. I wouldn't want to trade places with him. 8o

Yes Eleusis was a great underground chemist, but a lousy above-ground defendant. He sung like a canary, so the DEA let him keep his motorbike. ;)

Well... look at it this way.

John has done a lot of research lately on the particular type of vault at a bank near him. He's purchased certain tools that might be used to break into that vault.

Now two questions are: can those tools be used for anything else, and has John entered into an agreement with anyone to attempt to break into the vault?

If the answer to the second question is yes, a conspiracy charge can be brought. If the answer to the first question is no, we're getting a lot closer to an attempt.

^ The difference being that a hacksaw has a lot more uses than safrole. But in line with what you're saying, as the collection of tools--or chemicals--increases, the intent can become a lot more defined.

^ I know this was intended as a joke, but I need to point out that claiming the equipment is intended to manufacture soap would not be as good as not saying a word until your attorney is present. Statements made to the police can come back to haunt you.

^ The soap-making stuff would be good fodder for the attorney, though... ;)

Yeah. And hey, did someone buy him that glass equipment? Loan him to do it? Drive him to get it? Sounds like he knew what was going on too. Well hell, that's conspiracy to manufacture, and maybe to distribute...

Bottom line: don't do what the OP was asking about doing.

Or even just TALK about it!
