I will likely be experiencing mild withdrawal symptoms during a vacation I have planned next week. I'll be traveling to a higher elevation (5,500ft) and hopefully skiing/snowboarding at the local ski hill (up to 10,000ft). I live at sea level but visit the mountains regularly each year.

It's my understanding that your Blood Pressure can rise during withdrawals. I would love to go snowboarding to get some exercise and hopefully minimize symptoms. I'm worried that exercising at high altitude during withdrawal could potentially be dangerous due to blood pressure considerations.

I'm probably being paranoid here but would love to hear peoples thoughts.

Arrange for clonidine, it will not only help manage your withdrawels but will also keep your blood-pressure in check while you're at it.

Do you normally ski or snowboard? It's extremely taxing on the body and not sure its what you want to try in withdrawal lol.

I've been snowboarding for years. Usually 50+ days each season. I'm in decent shape.

Any tips in case I can't get my hands on any? Also, I take benzo's in the evening and I've read to avoid the combo where possible.

Are you suggesting that my fear of exercising being dangerous is well founded?

I am not entirely sure if it is but since you worry about it and are going to experience withdrawel anyway why not take clonidine which is a proven medication to aid in the proces while having the added effect of keeping your bloodpressure down. If you are really THAT worried about your bloodpressure but can´t get clonidine there are a hundred and one medications you can take that will reduce it. However i'd suggest sticking to clonidine for obvious reasons.

Forgive my ignorance here. It just seems like everything I read says that your blood pressure increases during withdrawals. I'm in pretty good shape, snowboard often, but am still freaking myself out a little bit about the combination of withdrawals causing HBP and the elevation. My habit is pretty small (40-60mg hydrocodone ONCE daily for 4.5 months).

I guess I can try and see if an urgent care doc will have sympathy for me? I can't go to my primary with this because he's well integrated in to my family. Sorry if it's against the rules to talk about sourcing Clonidine.

A doctor is the right person to go to for a script of clonidine, i don't think that's even source discussion that's just medical care. If worse comes to worse and you don't get the clonidine and you're adamant about going on your ski trip just take it easy. You'll know exactly when you're exerting yourself too much right? You're an experienced skier right? You will know when to take a step back for health considerations. High blood pressure for two weeks does not a heart-attack make.

If you must, take aspirin(acetylsalicylic acid) to reduce your bloodpressure. It works by dilating your bloodvessels.

Are you already on bp meds such as Norvasc, or Listinopril?

Make sure you stay hydrated, as the kidneys work overtime when you have HBP.

Any chance you can get some Suboxone or Methadone?
