Get support. The idea that you can do it completely on your own without support is self-defeating. You will still need will-power but when that just won't cut it you have people to lean on. People that know just where you are. Starting this thread was a good start. Bluelight can be great support but you will need even more. What have you already tried? Is there anyone else in your life going through a similar thing? Have you known anyone else that beat addiction? Can you call that person up and ask for help? Congratulations on the desire to quit, and on being so proactive as to ask for help from others. Even on the internet, it takes courage. <3

I've been addicted to them all. Had a nasty Oxy addiction at once point and traded it for benzos weed and boozes. All that did was prolong my misery for 5 more years. I got sober and stopped craving drugs by going to meetings and working the steps. Good luck.

Save the will-power for things like not eating an additional slice of pizza. We are talking about an addictive opiate not that different from heroin. It takes down people all the time with histories of self-discipline. Like herbavore wrote, find support and furthermore a variety of options for help.

1) Suboxone detox. Find a doctor and set up a rapid taper and see how that goes. Or obtain it a different way, but a doctor means not breaking the law.

2) AA/NA. Not for everyone, but at least find out it is not for you by giving it your best effort. You just might love it!

3) Friends/family. Tell people you can't do it alone and need help. Sure, a lot of people look down on drugs, but most respect (if not totally want to support) a person who wants to get off drugs.

4) Change people, places and things. Write out three lists of all of the people, places and things in your life right now. Then for each thing on each list ask yourself "does this help or hurt my effort to quit?" Cross off anything that hurts you. What is left, well there is the basis for your new life. Start adding new things to it that your mind does not associate with drugs or the scene.

5) Start working out and eating well as soon as detox ends. These are healthy replacement addictions for your addictive personality to latch onto. Getting in shape also does wonders for natural endorphins and self-confidence. No more need to have synthetic versions when you got the real deal.

6) Support meds. The first few weeks off are rough. Immodium can help an upset stomach (and other symptoms). L-tryptophan, camomile tea, passionflower, hops, melatonin, along with vitamins. Stay hydrated. Your doctor might give you stuff for sleep, blood pressure, etc.

The goal is to find stuff in recovery that you enjoy more than getting high, so that will-power is removed from the equation.

It is really hard at first. Most of us have been there. By 30 days you should feel like a totally new person if you get through it without using. You got it.

Amen!! realizing you need a little hand with this doesn't mean your a pussy (no offence to the fairer and more intelligent sex) just means your smart.. really good advice here. Like red said you got this but you need to actually begin and do it.. us addicts stick together like you have never experienced.. it quite the thing=D

also to espand on one more thing red suggested.. find things in recovery that make you higher than you have ever been.. being high doesn't mean being faded.. try skydiving and you will know what I mean<3

I made it.. detoxed of .5g H pd, 150 mgpd methadone, 260 mgpd roxies, 8 mgpd xanax, 40 mgpd ritalin.. in august, I have not had any since and I feel great.. you need to develop a recovery program that works for you. Hang in there is gets better quick<3

well done you!

Good advice on this thread. You've made a start, and it does take a supreme effort of will to even begin most often, let alone get through it and out to the other side, but it can be done.

The thing with will-power is it takes enormous energy to maintain. Constant vigilance when your addict mind is trying to do everything in its power to make you break when you're at a low ebb. Will power runs out in the end, you can't sustain it all on your own. Reach out to people. You've made a great start coming here, but real life support networks are gonna be critical for you. Our addictions fill LOTS of our time for us, pretty much all of it. When you're not on your DOC you're obsessing about it so it's a truly 365/24/7 thing. You must find something to fill that time with something that you find rewarding, whether that's AA / NA, SMART Recovery, hobbies with a social aspect away from drug users and triggering situations, doesn't matter, just find something, anything that will get you through the day and distract you from obsessing over your DOC.

Loads of us have been here, neversickanymore a superb case in point ( 'grats BTW NSAM! :) ). I'm a ten years plus clean ex-heroin addict, I'm just winning my fight against my current addiction which is booze at the minute but you will need help. Make sure you reach out and grab what's available to you.

Good luck! :)

higher power > self reliance
^this

+ self reliance < self knowledge

why would you continue to do what harms you?

it is these simple questions that bring the most complex answers, to the point that the reply received from yourself, is confounding enough to draw you back to the familiar comfort-zone acquired using in the first place.

idk if could do it ppl just keep saying is all in ur head you can do it but all reality idk if I can't if there's anyone out there with advice and or tips please share them

it is all in your head(your choice to continue using), all is in your head(unlimited realizations). we each have negative emotions which are unique for us, they are learned through unique situational circumstances. we all have positivity that is shared, common for us each, this aspect of life is not unique from one person to the next you just have to be able to accept it for yourself by surrendering yourself to the fear and letting it go; this is where a higher-power comes in, find yourself a 'load star' to give it up to and it will shine your true self(love) back at you.

You certainly CAN do this! But, very few of us addicts can do this simply by ourselves stop, never again. You HAVE TO reach out for support. You have already started that here. Good fucking job man! I know how much courage even this, an anonymous internet forum takes to reach out. Step 1. Do NOT pick up, call someone u already trust in your life, or better even still, go to a meeting. Because there are a lot of good people at these meetings. We all have the same goal in mind. Being clean! You make friends very quickly at these meetings, even if you are not a 100%. 12 stepper. Support, support, support! I cannot say it enough. I personally have never met any one that can and does do this on their own. Myself included! I certainly have tried. As of right now I'm 7 days clean from IV h of around 5 or 6 years. I'm headed to rehab, you may not have that option, but you can reach out for support. That is what I've done different so far this time. I've surrounded myself with sober, supportive people. I've been to rehab. Please bud do it for yourself! The great thing about these meetings is you don't have to indulge the dirty truth and let people down, these people already know and are in the same boat themselves!
