So i smoked bud all over the summer, and alot before that, and just about every weekend now, well i've decided to quit and im wondering if my memory will ever be sufficiently restored to its original state, i've noticed a drastic change in my vocabulary as well, which upsets me greatly because its one of the things i hold most dear. By the way, im 15 years old so could the lack of brain completion have to do with permanent damage?

it's not necessarily permanent, but if you hold off all drugs til you develop, you will catch up. drugs in general stunt development and since you're going through puberty it for sure has an (a/e)ffect. give it some time

Seeing how young you are, you should be careful with excessive marijuana use. Not be a preecher by any means, just i remember being in high school and it being so hard to remember anything the teacher had just got done finishing explaining. Grades slipped to below passing before i knew it.

But in the long run, your memory does return after not smoking for a month or two. After smoking marijuana heavily for around 5 years, i took a 2 months break and around a month and a half my memory had fully returned, and honestly got to the point where i was remembering too much stuff. My head was getting clogged with so much useless information it was hard to remember the important things.

I started at 15 and my short-term and long term memory are excellent. I did not smoke daily or even that often at 15 maybe just once a month. I didn't get into smoking on weekends until I was 18 and an adult.

If you're worried don't overdo it.

Dude you are good, you said you were using like every week end or something. Your memory should shoot back quickly as week end use of marijuana is hardly any use at all. The people greatly effected by memory are the ones that use heavily daily and even then some say memory is not that much effected. I remember my week end use, i don't remember any problems with memory or cognitive function at all. Heavy consecutive daily use is what really gave me a negative head change : (

My issues are more along the line of being mid train of thought, and suddenly that whole thought process was lost.

You'll be fine. Don't worry about it. Just hold off the drugs for a few weeks and you'll be back to normal.

i will also say yes as before i went into rehab i felt normal being high more than not being high(most know what i mean)but anyway a cloud lifts slowly once you stop useing and even memory you thought would never return does returnin time.
Almost everything went back to "normal"after a few months.
But those that have abused heavy drugs can say they definatly have lost some brain function..its the price ya pay...

While using marijuana, that is easily the most common manifestation for me as well. I too started at 15 but used very heavily at that time, pretty much from the onset. And now, going on and off for periods of time, I find in my off-times, I am A-Okay.

Just take a day or two break and you even get some memory improvements then.

Otherwise for a full "brain reset" you need to take a 1-2month break

That's my favorite thing about cannabis, any effects it has on my brain function (at least in my case) completely goes away if I take a break for several weeks. But you really should go easy on the drugs, or not at all, until you're 18 at least, then the most major brain development is complete.

Yes, your memory will return because cananbis does not harm brain function

Sure does.

Just not permanently.

OP, you should be more concerned about building better habits for your future. Take a break, you'll be fine.... but smoking a lot now can certainly effect your overall *mindset* about things.

it'll come back, but you'll probably have an easier recovery if you actually work for it. like an above poster said, study more, smoke less. I've found that alot of the dumbness from smoking is from sitting around doing absolutely nothing. get those neurons excited!

Your memory will most likely return if you take a couple months break from smoking.
