Opioids Why would Codeine help me more with depression than morphine?

I'm prescribed both, but normally prefer morphine (in general, for obvious reasons). The morphine hasn't really been helping me feel less depressed the last several days, but I just had some Codeine and now I DO feel (a little) better?

No particular reason for changing to codeine today, I just usually take either one or the other rather than both at the same time, to help me try and make them last.

You are aware that long-term opioid use is associated with depression. The precise mechanism isn't explained (hence 'association' rather than 'cause') but won't homeostasis result in the body producing fewer dynorphin which is known to affect mood.

Can you think back to before you used opioids. Were you depressed then?

opioids are going to make your life a thousand times harder and make your more depressed

I've noted that over the years, my mood has become increasingly labile and follows my prescribed dose interval. Feel down, take my medicine and from +1 to +4 hours I feel OK but then I feel worse and worse until it's time for the next pill.

I presume my body has grown accustomed to there being opioids in my system with the result that produces less dynorphin (endogenous opiate associated with mood). It's like being on an emotional rollercoaster.
