Why isn't temezapam prescribed more often for anxiety

My one and only time i took temezapam was a 7.5mg which is the lowest dose, and i felt significant anxiety relief. I get prescribed a low dose of klonopin which might be getting increased, but i don't feel that relief that i did from temezapam. I could definitely imagine 15mg or even 30mg providing a blanket of anxiety relief like xanax. Everyone has encouraged me to stick to klonopins even though i am not using them as prescribed and typically upto 3 times a week. When the dose is increased i'll feel more relief on the days i take it, but in my opinion it sucks taking it 3 times a week as in comparison to xanax, temezapam, or even ativan. Why is that beautiful benzo temezapam not prescribed more often for anxiety?

There are primarily 5 subunits that benzodiazepines display varying affinities for in the GABAA receptor complex. They look for benzodiazepines that have high affinities for α2 and α3 and lower affinity for α1 because benzos with high affinity for that subunit are more sedating, cause more impairment, cause more ataxia and are more reinforcing (addictive). The α2 and α3 subunits are associated with more anxiolysis.

Temazepam has moderate α3 affinity showing that it does provide decent anxiolysis but it's more sedating and slightly more 'addictive' that most of the benzos they prefer to use for as anxiolytics.

Since you only took it once, it might have been something situational that made it seem like it was more effective for you than it really is, it may have been from incomplete cross-tolerance or you might have just found it more sedating and enjoyable and equated that with anxiety-relief. The last possibility I mentioned seems especially likely given that you are not taking them as prescribed and have probably come to associate getting more fucked up on them with 'anxiety-relief'.

If you want benzodiazepines to be truly useful for anxiety, you really need to treat them with respect and use them as sparingly as possible. Ideally, the best use for benzodiazepines is in a limited context to treat the worst of the anxiety while you learn more sustainable ways of managing the it. If used regularly over the long term, benzodiazepines are more likely to make things worse and have a hell of a withdrawal and PAWS associated with them.

Be careful, man.

I know my klonopins, don't provide me with that relief i had from that time on the temezapam. The only benzos that i have tried that instantly lift me out of anxiety and wrap me around a complete anxiety free blanket is xanax and that one experience of temezapam, and ativan. But as people say klonopin is suited better for long term because of it;s long half life, and i don't use them as prescribed and try to use them no more than 3 times a week, but since my dose is only 0.5 twice a day, i have been using it as prescribed more so lately. My goal is next week to get it bumped upto 1mg twice a day so i can strictly go back to using it 2-3 times a week only since i'm assuming 3-4mg of klonopin should be more effective at knocking out more anxiety and could compare to a low dose of xanax, temezapam, and ativan. With xanax it's like this sigh of relief, not something i have gotten yet from klonopin.

Xanax is just extremely fact acting and hard hitting, that's why you're perceiving it as having such better anxiolytic effects. Klonopin is much more subtle as it comes on gradually and lasts a long time. If you don't suffer from panic attacks and only have something like GAD, Klonopin is a better choice than xanax.

Chasing benzos for recreational effects is asking for trouble. They aren't that recreational to begin with, and tolerance will build very rapidly if you push past your prescribed dose constantly.

Temazepam is one of the more hypnotic benzos, and hence not indicated for anxiety, but rather for sleep. If it works that well for you, once could ask if the doctor would write it for you off-label. I'm surprised you had such great anxiolytic benefit at that dose, I never did at 45 mgs.
