Well, I'm not a meth user but I think the reason it gets a bad rep is because of how it makes people act, but also how it makes them look. I mean, those mug shots of people being arrested on a regular basis showed the devastating effects of this drug; the weight loss, the scabs, 'meth mouth' and the soulless, dead eyes. The following is a poem I read about meth, apparently written by a woman who was arrested for drug charges. It answers your questions quite nicely.
My Name: "Is Meth"
I destroy homes, I tear family's apart, take your children, and that's just the start.
I'm more costly than diamonds, more precious than gold,
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember I'm easily found, I live all around you - in schools and in town
I live with the rich; I live with the poor, I live down the street, and maybe next door.
I'm made in a lab, but not like you think,
I can be easily made under the kitchen sink;
