Why did you Join BL?

After the recent post by Dante on the image of BL, I am interested what reasons people actually joined BL. Why do you still read it belong to it. What is BL to you.
For me, I joined after I went to a rave with K9 who told me to simply go to www.bluelight.ru in the morning. I did with no concept of what it was, and I would say I stayed originally for the social. But then I discovered DD, Erowid and a couple of interesting parts of BL or associated with BLers.
I am now here as someone who gives a fuck about other users. I rarely pop, but I go out regularly, I meet a lot of people who go way hard, with no idea of what they are doing or how to minimise harm. To these people I recommend BL.
Such people as Johnnybopbop, and Cortez. BL is not only here for us, it isnt an exclusive club. It is a source of information that could save lives.
Phoenixowen, for example has never ever done any drugs. Yet she knows more about them than most people I meet off their head in clubs.
People argue about the fact we have social, and yes we all know of at least one person each, who isnt really into harm minimisation. Should they be removed? Of course fucking not. The fact that such people visit BL means that there is a possibility these people learning about drugs.
It is good they are here, as long as the rest of us dont start following their lead.
I love the social aspect of BL, and I dont think I have met a BLer I dont like. For me the Social side of BL is important, but it isnt my whole life. And the fracturing that the Sydney BL scene has faced is bullshit. Yes people are different, we dont have much in common, but I think people need to make more of an effort.
The fact that I rarely do anything, that I dont feel experienced enough to answer most questions asked in DD better than the mods,
does that mean I shouldnt be on BL?
Im keen to hear responses to that
Also Im keen on following up on Moochos idea of having meetings and deciding what we are about.
I dont want BL to eventually become another whore-like webring that is just full of teenbopper underaged drug pigs.
I seriously think that BL should have a revised Manifesto on what BL is and what it is.

It should be remembered that Mods are just janitors (as BT puts it) - we're here primarily to clean up after people's mistakes. If someone posts in the wrong forum we move their thread. If someone tries to deal or ask for sources we stop them. But if someone asks a question about drugs then a Mods answer and SuperPlurKhandiPrincesses answer are both equally valid. It's all about what you know, not what your title is - and on bluelight if you know the answer to someones question you just answer it.
Mods opinions and answers about anything other than the way the board is physically run and maintained are no more or less important than anyone elses...
That said, Mods have usually been around for a long period of time and so it's usually safe to say that they know a fair bit about what they're talking about. But be careful not to automatically trust what we say - we're human and make mistakes like everyone else... :)

To the best of my knowledge I stumbled onto Bluelight as a link from pillreports when I was just clicking away trying to get some information on the upcoming weekends purchase. I was instantly stunned that a drug-related resource such as this was accesable and as such I avidly read everything I could relating to 'the chemical world' if you will.
Not only this, but I found BL (at least Aus Social, AusDD and Events [I'll admit I hardly read anything else]) to be brimming with intelligent people that I felt happy to communicate with.
Through meeting up at events and house parties etc I believe ive made some strong social connections and met some really good people, quite often because of the fact that we have an obvious shared interest in drugs / music and generally by being a part of the BL community the person in question is fairly intelligent.
I go out very regularly (and yes, quite hard) and have been for around 2 years (although only member of BL for less then 1). The information ive garnered from BL has been instrumental in allowing me to watch out for myself and the people around me. Also to go as hard as I have... If I had not of come across Bluelight and Bluelighter's then I know without a shadow of a doubt id be a much more... erm... 'naive' person in knowledge and experience... I dont consider it a bad thing though, its all been pretty damn unreal :)
I enjoy interacting with the people on this board and still consider it a wealth of new and old information that has had a major influence in my life.
Bluelight *is* changing, and perhaps because its become 'cool' for someone to hear about it at a party and then rush out to try and become a BL'er asap. Maybe its for this reason (that people are no longer finding BL and using it as a resource, that they are just trying to be part of the latest r4v3 kr3w) that the way we perceive the people of our community is going down-hill (personal opinion). Honestly until a few months ago, I dont think anyone was really getting around claiming to be 'Bluelighters', it was just intelligent, associated people that posted on a message board...
Im just posting here for the sake of getting something up, sorry if its got to no real point, this just spurred me on:

*** MODERATORS *** (And owners/benefactors): I'd just like to take the time to thank the moderators of the above mentioned forums because without their excellent work then I'm pretty sure I wouldnt get nearly as much out of my BL trawling as I do :D

I joined because I have been going to parties for about 10 years now (& Been on IRC for almost 8) , and a mutual party/IRC friend told me about it, so it kinda made sense (in no particular order)- to make some new friends with similar interests, learn more about harm minimisation / information sharing etc.
 
to find out what all the phreakin phuss was about...
and then *fell in lurve* with tha damn thing...not to mention the ppl... :D

I joined after following a link from pillreports.com - I had been looking for a site like this, and once I found it, I stayed here.
Although I tend to post quite a bit in social, it's pretty much a case of 'since I'm already here...' while I'm checking the drug forums. Although I dont post much in the drug forum (why post if you have nothing meaningful to add to the thread) I read a much higher percentage of the threads in there - typically between 95 and 100% of the threads.
I came on to learn about drugs, and have met great people along the way, and that has been great. Thing is, whether I met anyone or not, my goal hasn't changed, and I would still be coming in to read the drug forums.
I don't think social should be killed. I think it acts as a great filter to keep the crap out of the drug forums, and has allowed a community to flourish. The problem is that the success of social has been so high that the focus has shifted from primarily talking about drugs to talking about anything else. Getting rid of social is highly impractical, and face it - the more visitors that come here, even for social reasons, the more people that are exposed to the drug forums.
If people check the drug forums and and then, then there should be no issue. It's when people use only the social forums that the problem arises. Personally, I don't know why they would - there are more entertaining boards out there in social terms.
 
I got here through PillReports.com whilst looking for information. Ive always made a sorta pact with myself that b4 i take something i know as much as i can about it.
Bluelight is good for me for 2 reasons. 1) It has a wealth of drug information and links. 2) I can talk to others about their experiences and get a better insight into things. Those two reason have helped me out heaps over the last year. I had been reading these forums for a few months until i finally decided to register and well.. Here i am. :)
Id like to also thank BT for the help, advice and information he gives us. He is certainly a wealth of information. :)

If people have a problem with me being here or the content of my posts, speak up. I'm not one to shy away from constructive criticism. I think we've all posted stupid shit at some time without thinking.
 
Heard about Bluelight from Sublimaze.
Had a look and found it useful, along with Erowid.
Met some good people through it, and now you can't get rid of me! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!

I found a wonderful community filled with intellegent and witty people, who answered my questions even though they're was personal incentive to do so. Bluelight appeared as some sort of "drug friendly" (how cliched!) utopia, where the open flow of dialogue was aimed at everyones best interests. I wanted to be part of this and now aside from learning about responsible drug use i find bluelight as a great social outlet as well. What can i say but youse are all grouse :)
 
Hmmm I'm amazed at how many people have put HOW they FOUND bluelight, as opposed to WHY they JOINED.
But anyway.
I joined bluelight because I had a lot of questions that I wanted answers for, I thought that I could do this better by being a member of bluelight. The social aspect came later.

I was thinking the same thing plaz.
I joined because i wanted to ask questions about drugs, and offer my answers to other's questions. I've never really been one for the social aspect.
I've stayed, but i have left for 2 extended breaks, mainly due to getting bored with the board, a lack of time, and focusing all my surfing on net porn.
 
Well, in the beginning about 2 yrs ago, went out for a huge night, and that's how my name came into being...... (my old profile just got deleted...... hmmmmmph!)
Was introduced thru friends after meeting Supaspeed & Bester @ Creation 2000 (remember the office?!!)
 
Why? I joined: Curiousity.
I was in pillreport.com and found BL by accident.
I have found the people in BL to be intelligent and informative, and even though I have been around awhile (yes, I did write the bible), I find there is always something new to learn, and I have done quite abit of that here (aswell as having met some fantastic people). And this is what it is all about.
Having fun in the scene, but in the safest way possible.
so...yeh.
 
Mine was pretty weird. I was playing pool with this guy in a pub out in the middle of no where near venus bay and he told me he pops pills every now and then. I had just started doing it and going to parties so I was pretty interested on what he had to say. He then told me I should check out bluelight.ru so I thought I would give it a go. That's about it!!! Don't know who the guy was, but he sure knew what he was on about!
 
Like Dvah, i came here because of curiosity. I had heard of it from Magoo and Flutter and at the time i didn't even take MDXX, but i had been in the scene for 8 years and knew about it and was purely interested in finding out about it. I learnt many things and eventully took my first pill after i thought i had enuf knowledge to do so. I will admit i didn't test at the time, but thats because at that time there was very little, to no info on Canberra in Bluelight. Look at us know, we have our own HM Crew and many stores sell testers and we have a fairly big group of BL members. :)
