its going to take time for Obama to fix what has been done... he is trying his best but damn america is fucked up right now.
it will get legalized sooner or later but its not on the top of anyones list, it would help the economy though in a weird sort of way.

Honestly I think that its just too much of a political hot potato right now. It might have been dealt with more seriously if he wasn't straining his credibility with the economic plans already.
The "DRUGS WILL RAPE YOUR CHILDREN" crowd would start rioting if he brought this up right now. He has claimed that federal raids on dispensaries will not continue under his administration, it remains to be seen if this will really be true, but these things can take time. I'm trying not to be completely cynical, because I feel like there is a shot at this, but its most likely the type a thing a president would do in his 2nd term, so they can't be attacked for it in the re-election campaign. We just need to do everything we can to keep the issue at least near the forefront of what's recieving media attention.

I am for the complete legalization of marijuana. However,
If Obama hypothetically had the power to legalize and did legalize adult use of marijuana, I can imagine many attacks at him. It would be almost as if every time someone smoked pot after it was legal, "they" (opponents) would try to blame it on him.
If marijuana was decriminalized and age-regulated such as alcohol or tobacco many people would be able to try marijuana who never have before. Including people who have medical illnesses such as schizophrenia or other conditions. All of the problems that this would cause would be blamed on him.
Yes, tobacco and alcohol cause many mental problems already. Their widespread availability and social acceptability makes this problem worse. If marijuana was likewise legal, the person who legalized it would now take criticism for all of its problems.
Vehicle accidents, people committing suicide, all kinds of other issues... People would place the blame on Obama. This is what he has to deal with. It is cowardly for him to say that he is against legalization. But I'm sure this is why he hold this stance. We need politicians who have the bravery to legalize this plant, reap the financial benefits, and tell the opponents how ridiculous their arguments are. People have no problem obtaining marijuana for personal use, despite it having been illegal for the last hundred years or so.
Bars can be held responsible for serving someone too much alcohol and letting them drive away. Would cannabis dispensing facilities be likewise responsible?
The more I consider medical marijuana the more it makes sense, even if it's just a way of compromising between an opressive government and the rights of the people. Yes, the government should not be able to tell us what we can put in our bodies. But marijuana is indeed a drug and can produce debilitating panic in some people. Perhaps if we all had to have a meeting with a doctor to get a prescription, that doctor could at least just our mental health and responsibility and whether or not marijuana would be a bad influence on our lives. It could be good for many to step back and think about their marijuana use, the act of meeting with a professional could be that step.
What we really, really need in this country (and everywhere) is standardized, professionally grown medical marijuana. Not fucking schwag that's been stored under someone's bed getting covered in cat hairs for nine months. We need, deserve, and should DEMAND high quality, healthy, organic product. For our healths and because we deserve it.
Bottom line, however: It is just a plant. You can't say a plant's illegal, especially not one as easy to grow as cannabis. This "weed" is here to stay, legal or not

one thing about cannabis and unemployment-having no job is bad having no job and cheap easy access pot would be bad as when you are down pot can get you into a spiral of lazy depression (i'm talking from experience).. how will ending up in this trance get you a job quicker... it wont! though the youtube clip shows a snotty undertone that seems like this man is a new tony blair (yuk)...

^I don't think anyone's saying smoking pot is a great idea. Its intoxicating, and can become a vice, plus, particulate matter in the respiratory tract is never too good an idea. There is a lot of medicinal value within the plant, but it hasn't been really accepted and used that much due to the stigma it has. The point is our drug laws are ridiculous, ineffective, contradictory, and a huge waste of resources. They've turned several generations into habitual felons, and the amount of productivity, losses of freedoms (both individual and collective) have proven to be horrible for our society. If we keep plugging away at it more people will notice.
