hi :) !
im gonna buy a mp3 player in not too long
and my mind is pretty made up by now
but i had to study what was available to end up with my conclusion...

so,
share what you would buy or have bought
and tell us why you went in that direction

(you can include headphone and random shit related to this...)

lots of different needs, taste, budget and habit on this one....resulting in lots of different portable rig (you can include pics of your setup too :) )

ok ill start with this :
Archos320.png

(did pretty much everything except being small)
then i went with this :
28575201-177x150-0-0.jpg

2 years ago, 1gig (9 band custom eq :) )

and now im going that direction :
Sony-Walkman-NWZ-S610_275.jpg

why :
sound quality (rated as one of the best)
drag and drop, no need of any software
can surf by folder-file style (can also surf with the id3 tag style)
custom eq
(battery is nice too)
a nice review from dapreview

what i wanted was a big one gig-wise
bigest one is aple ipod with the 160gig one
then the second generation Zune 80gig that seem to be better in any way than the ipod classic (if your not a fanboy and itune and mac user)
i was gonna go with the zune but no folder surfing and no eq whatsoever but good sound quality, and i find the device attractive
zune80.jpg

less than 250 $ for 80 gig is really cool, i still remember when 20gig was still 400$.....

i was waiting or hopping for a x7 from cowon :( didnt come
so im gonna have to wait some more for a eventual player that can do all i want, ive got more than 200gig in music so even the ipod one would not fit all, so its 4 or 8 gig in flash for now from sony

my headphone are :
grados sr-60
akg-271
sure-e2
agrasr60.jpg
Shure_E2.jpg
akg_hsd271.jpg

i just use a standard 2gig ipod nano...
nano_family.jpg

i like it because i can use the nike+ipod function and it'll keep track of my running.. it was really accurate out of the box then i went ahead and calibrated it anyway..

anyway i have never had any problems with it.. its one year old.. and lets just say i didnt get much of my music from itunes :p

i also dont mind having a small space on it because i can keep it organized and simple, and when i get tired of the music i just rotate the songs. it keeps shuffling really well, its like the most amazing radio station in the world..

which leads me to the only problem with i ipod i can think of.. it completely ruins the idea of an album :P i have no clue what order the songs go in on the albums anymore and it makes it rather impossible for me to appreciate what the artist was going for

i must say that the black nano is the only ipod i find attractive (excluding iphone and itouch thats another deal - design)
the first generation might have being sexy at first but now im very tired of that design, i really dont like the last one who look like a damn square...

so pemde will you keep us updated on that 80 gig zune ? :)
and why did you go with Zune ? over a ipod 80gig for instance ?

- thank you come again :)

i use a handme down 2nd gen ipod shuffle....which does me just fine. Using floola or yamipod on windows, or using amarok in linux to manage it.

if i had to buy one for myself though...

Hemiechinus : learn how to jam with music in your brainsphere. :p ;)

Can you actually do that?
I was jk, but every once in a while, usually when stoned, I get a feeling that some of the song i'm listening to is imaginary, and that I can add more if I let myself.
It's the same thing anyways really, as everything is technically a hallucination, so why not?

2nded on the iriver320 (20 Gb). I have one and I've had it for around 4 years now and yeh the battery died a little while ago but you can send it back and they change it or you can buy a battery and do it yourself (there are tutorials).

here's a review that I mostly agree with:
iriver H320 review. Ignore the comment about the learning curve. I'm sure most people will understand how to function the player. And the bit about controls. (IMO)

My ideal audio player is very portable, and take abuse, long battery life, sounds ok, and is cheap enough that it's not going to be a problem if I lose it or accidently destroy it by getting it rained on or something. So I bought a $25 SAnsa player last year. 512 MB memory hold s >100 mp3. Takes 1 or 2 aaa batteries adn goes for about 30 hours so it's great for travelling, jogging, bike rides, .... sound quality is fine for noisy outdoor environment in traffic and all.

The same player I have
Prolly had it around the same time...Still working great!
and I have the rockbox firmware installed so I can play Pokemon

i bought a sony 1gb walkman stick a few years ago after my md player was stolen. compared to the MD player, the little stick's size was great. the sonicstage is a bit of a hassle but an hour-long usb charge will take battery from empty to full and it can play for over a day straight. did i mention sound quality is really, really good? SNR must be at LEAST 115, and bass pounds heavy on headphones that draw a lot more power then i'd expect a tampon-sized player to keep up with.

for: most quick and intuitive interface, elegant design, instant on

against: not plug and play, needs i-tunes or equivalent, price

I got the slow shipping so im not going to have it for a while :( but I picked it over the ipod because of its look, bigger screen, i had an ipod before and hated it, everybody has an ipod so i wanted something different, zune supports what i need it to :D

when you have 80 gigs to store whatever the hell you like, i think its essential that you can plug in the device and browse all contents with having to install proprietary software.
