the new iphone se is slightly longer and thiner which means it won't fit in my old case. so i went on apple thinking they'd have the ultimate case and they are thin silicone garbage that would let me phone break if it feel off a seat. any suggestions?

this was my old case ...

it was a greater manufacturing marvel than today's iphones. of course by incase designs.

i switched from apple to samsung android 5 years ago. honestly, i prefer apple's phone design and iOS. but i'll probably go with a fairly basic and very cheap android huawei for my next phone.

Honestly go on amazon and search for a case there are loads coming up for me that are £20 and drop proof etc. But I’m in UK and you’re in US so you’ll need to check your version.

I'm a firm believer in OtterBox. Dropped plenty of times, run over by the car once, never an issue. I've had OtterBox on my iphones for the past 6-7y without complaint. May run roughly $80, but they last.

Ok, one concern, the plexiglass protecting the face has, at times, gotten an air gap making my touch not have effect. It's rare, but it has happened. I suppose a second concern is the rubber flaps that protect ports (charge port, headphone jack on older models) gets a little torn loose after about 3y.

Still, I'll swear by them and get one for my iPhone 12 or whatever they release this fall. Anyone calling me an iPhone fanboy should know I'm still nursing my 6S (aka "Dino-Phone) that charges overnight and is at 58% battery by the time I leave the house and head to work.

^i got an otterbox. was a little more expensive, but it looked effective. it was about the same design as that nëxt case i linked to above but half the price and a little cleaner. the systm case was about the same price. that lasted me though two phones and hundreds of drops (one phone fell in a lake and the other temporarily had the case removed).

hasn't arrive yet, but think this one has a raised beveled edge instead of something that goes over the screen. and it looks like instead of flaps the case extends past the speakers and port a bit to help keep them clean. probably to address the issues you mention. i'll get a plexiglass adhering screen protector though. my cousin who repairs phones says they don't do anything but i disagree and i'm godly at installing them so i can't even tell there on there.

plus it had an all clear option and i didn't spend that much on a phone to cover it up with an ugly case (i thought the systm one looked good on a white iphone).

and this iphone is replacing a first gen se i got for $70 bucks off ebay, so i know nursing a dino phone. for some stupid reason i took the case off it and then fell riding my bike on subs and pcp analogs (not a bad fall; i've gone over my handle bars on a road bike and smash my face into the asphalt -- that hurt so bad i can't describe it) and flew it out of my pocket and shattered. i preferred the original se becuase it was the size of a 5 and the new one is the size of a 7. too bad apple is an asshole and stops supporting old phones. i don't understand how we stopped valuing small size in cellphones.

any suggestions?

Get a landline, throw the cell phone against the wall, and enjoy the freedom. My life is so much better now that people can't contact me anytime they want. Found out who the real friends are. I have about six of them. I know they're real friends because they knock on the door.

i actually think that's a decent suggestion. i do not think cell phones have improved my life. but these days you kinda need one.

Why do you need it? Work? why do they need contact with you 24/7?

Just try it for a few days. You'll be shocked at how often you're using the thing due to boredom.

word. i'm a benzo addict who smokes and shoots coke and opiates, so my parents use it to make sure i'm not dead. also yes, when i'm employed i work in communications so yet i need it for work. that said, i would be better off if i only used it when absolutely necessary.

I feel like every job wants us to believe 24/7 contact is a requirement now. I don't put up with that any longer. I give them a landline and they can leave a message. If they need 24/7 contact they can pay me extra and supply the beeper. I've found most jobs worth having won't argue with this.

I'm being rude and derailing your thread sorry. When I had a cell phone I always bought cheap cases off Amazon. I never spent more than $10-$15 on one. All that I used worked fine for the purpose of being able to drop the phone without breaking the screen. Unless you're getting something for looks I wouldn't bother spending more than that for a case. I always used androids after I upgraded from my old flip phones. I ran an Android from the first release up until a couple of years ago. The cell phone got tossed out when I deleted all my social media accounts. I think my life has improved a lot since doing both of those things. My parents can still contact me on the landline, over e-mail, and a couple of other old school methods. When I see my friends/family now I enjoy the time I spend with them a lot more. They are full of stories to tell and have mountains of pictures to show me. Instead of seeing those things on social media they can show me in person again like the old days. :)

i don't mind the comments. the only social media i use is instgram because i'm a photographer. and communications includes pr so i really can't depend on a landline.

I have a thin silicone case and they absorb shock better than you'd think. I prefer it because it doesn't noticeably add to the size but it still provides most of the protection that a bulkier case would. Falls from shoulder height are no problem

interesting. i noticed that those silicone cases were really popular. i didn't think they'd be effective though. when i first got an iphone it was really just because i want a kenzo case but i then i got the systm case because i couldn't wait to order a case online and i ended up loving it.
