What'd you do to get off your butt today? v. "That's not real exercise!"

i stretch well, and would consistently get soreness a couple of days later when working out at the proper gym. DOMS?

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.

Yeah, I realise that me not getting much DOMS at all is pretty out-of-the-ordinary - it could be that I drink an effective replenishment blend (the oats/milk/banana/etc smoothie) straight after working out, the cold shower, the mineral-rich diet, the effective warm-up, anything really. There are a variety of ways to reduce DOMS for those who get it....google is your friend.

I rarely get DOMS as well attempt, go us ;)
I take magnesium supplements every day, I attribute my lack of DOMS partially to that. I also do everything else you said attempt, except for the post-workout smoothie :)

I keep forgetting to post in here about my exercise of late! I've signed up for another half-marathon, which is on the 27th November (6 weeks to go).

Last Monday: 11km
Last Friday: 12km
Today: 10km
I wanted to do 12km today but my stomach is a bit upset and it kept cramping so I just did 10km.
My aim for next week is to do a 14km'er sometime with 1 or 2 x 10km's in there as well.

Oh and I've been swimming a couple of times at my new gym %)

^you go girl!

i like the soreness, but am i wrong in my understanding that such soreness connotes bigger gains? aside from starting up/getting back into it (like my stomach muscles at the moment), the two have consistently correlated in my experience.

on second thought, starting up or getting back into training there are very big gains to be make very quickly, but for the sake of the correlation debate, pay no attention to this.

5x5 deadlift
4x10 weighted wide grip pullups
a few sets of curls
And a jog out of the gym

-Kept it short today. Been sick, stomach was not sitting too well toward the end of my sets.

Go N3o go!

I haven't run for 3 days after work due to constant rain and a sprinkle of laziness. Today I tried running on the greenway (paved path maintained by the city). I figure I need to have an alternative for cardio when the ice and snow hits.
I ran 5.8 miles in 55 minutes. I have knee/shin awareness not pain if that makes sense. That does not happen in the woods.
I prefer the trails.

Soreness itself isn't an indicator of expecting bigger gains from the work out. It just so happens that if you are painful after a workout, it has probably been a hard/good one anyway so the two are naturally linked, but no....I very rarely get DOMS, like I said, and I make fantastic gains in minimal time.

And aye, noob gains are wonderful at the start of working out after having either never done it before or after having a break. You are almost touching upon De-loading techniques there, where one may enhance the efficacy of their regime by taking a week or two off then returning feeling stronger and making better gains whilst beating any plateau's they may have hit.

Neo - Magnesium probably does have a huge part to play in it! I didn't even clock that (not with it right now at all)....the muscle relaxation from Mag is very noticeable indeed at times.
Also, well done on the marathon thing....i've suddenly developed an interest in doing it after reading your post there, never thought about it before. I think I might do it next year, would be a good thing to add to one's list of achievements!

thanks again for that..

last night found our sauna closed so spent some time alternating between the lat pull down bar thing and a row.

still haven't seen the community centre gym, i guess i should wait until my branding ceases being an open wound. damn this is taking a while.

bugger it, bandaged my arm and hit the local. glad to find a nice set of free weights. hit my chest, tris and shoulder. $6 casual visit is do-able. at my old gym the casual visit rate is $17.50!

picked up a half chicken meal from oportos on the way home and about to nom like there's no-nomomorrow.

despite my heavy lunch and lots of uni to do, i ran almost 6kms in 30 mins tonight. i'm finding myself using exercise for both procrastinating from study and time wastage to make it go by faster (waiting to go overseas in december to be reunited with wife and baby son).

A disappointing 2.6 mile trail run. It was 80F at 430p today. Gorgeous.
The outside arch of my left foot hurts. No problem working in 4 inch heels all day. As soon as I started running OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH.

Hmmm, not good hun. Maybe you should take a few days' break from trail running, and/or not wear high heels for a few days...?

I actually can't wear high heels every day at work at all anymore, which sucks because I LOVE heels. It's due to my tendancy to get shin splints, and also after I tore my quad muscle and then sprained my foot within 2 months of each other back in 2009, obviously I couldn't wear heels for a LONG time after that. Now, I can wear high heels for about 3-4 hours at a time before my quad muscle and shins start to complain.

Anyway, yesterday I ran 8km (5mi) in 40 mins. Felt amazing :)
Today I swam 1km.

My left arch still hurts and feel better in heels vs flats. It hurt a bit a few days prior to the Monday run but I ignored it.
I haven't run since and might try again Friday. I am going to wear flats to work tomorrow and see how that feels.

My black runner's toenail is on its way out. It is about 3/4 of the way "unsealed". Good thing open toe season is on its way out. I had to cancel my pedi for next Sat.

I think I should buy new runners. These ones are about 10 months old and inexpensive. When I was shopping for sneaks I was trying on $160 pair as I usually buy and the clerk said are you a runner and I said no so gimme those $50 ones. I am a runner now.

awesome runtime, n3o. as ususal :)

yesterday i skipped shirtless in the sun for 30 mins (using a rope, not around in circles!). then hit my building's gym for some lats pull down, row, declined (reclined? ;)) situps, and figured out how to adapt the bench press machine to do squats. two padded attachments fit on which rest on your shoulder, maxed the machines weighs (says 200, must be lbs). finished with some arm curls.

I thought about that as a diagnosis but the pain in not in my heel but the stretching is worth a try.
I don't think it is bad enough to consult a doctor.

last night 45 mins in the sauna. today, baking skin in the 29C sun wearing just stubbies (i'd post pics, but that would break the internet and the fabric of reality, and prove once and for all, there is no god).

yes i am using sunscreen, I need it. the other day was nowhere near as hot as this, but just chatting to the neighbour on the balcony a short while made my shoulders rose fairly uncomfortably.

although the lack of movement required for these two activities is hardly strenuous, it doesn't make them easy.
