Aye too pricey like. Was it good?

I'm getting in the mood to eat again but I shouldn't be after the amount I ate for tea earlier. I was planning on healthy eating this week but it's not happened today.

It was pretty good. I've had better, but it was definitely better than average. Most Indians disappoint me, really. The best Indians I've had have been the original Kushis in Drummond Street, Kalpna and Annapurna. And the mosque kitchen of course, but it's gone all swanky now.

Kalpna seems to have gone downhill lately too :|

Nothing's as good as it used to be!

Mosque kitchen really cannot be beaten, not only is it the best curry in Edinburgh but a curry and rice is only a fiver. It's hardly gone swanky though, it's just no longer outside under a tin roof with pigeon shit everywhere. The old place had a certain charm about it right enough. The very first time I went (to the original) was on a Friday afternoon, I walked into the courtyard bit where the tables were and there were a couple people eating curries but I couldn't see where they'd got them from. Then I saw some blokes heading into a door further down and followed them thinking it was the kitchen. Turns out the kitchen was closed as it was time for Friday prayers and I'd walked right into the mosque, shoes on and everything, in the middle of their ceremony to see a few hundred muslim blokes staring at me wondering what the fuck I'm doing. I left without getting a curry and went back next week and hoped they wouldn't remember me.

Where's Kalpna? Kushies was OK when I went a few years ago but nothing special, was good you could take your own booze.

They probably moved because of doughnuts like you barging into their prayers!

Kalpna is opposite St Patrick Square, near the old Odeon. It's a vegetarian place, I thought it had been there since the 70s as the old decor was very 70s, but they just say they've been around for "over 25 years".

Last time I ate there the food was not actually hot, temperature wise. I think it's deliberate though. Apart from that the food is excellent.

The Khushis I'm talking about has been closed for probably 8 or 9 years, and was there for many years before that. It was a similar idea to the Mosque Kitchen, no frills, like a canteen, all the food was served in wee metal bowls and the menu was a laminated sheet of blue or green A5 paper. The choice was samosas, rice, lamb, beef, chicken, chapatis and a load of vegetable dishes. Cheap as fuck - no more than £2.50 for any dish - and delicious. Their lime pickle was amazing, hot as fuck and freshly made. Only drink was tap water, but like now you could bring in your own beer.

The new Khushis is still a lot better than your usual curry but their menu is mainstream and it's not cheap any more.

Ann Purna (I've spelled all the names right this time...) is the only place that hasn't changed in my time, it's on St Patrick Square too, actually on the square, and is vegetarian. Their thalis are amazing.

Why would they purposely sell cold food? I could go a lamb curry from Mosque Kitchen right now, I can actually taste it just thinking about it.

No it's not... You pay for a hot meal, if it's not hot when it gets served I wouldn't be very happy.

Day 2 of the healthy diet, still not back at the gym at all but made a massive wholemeal pasta, peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, chicken breast and a creamy tomato sauce for lunch tomorrow. Only one unhealthy thing I've eaten all day was a bag of Walkers BBQ crisps, saved a fortune making my own food aswell.

i like my food warm and not piping hot, making chicken stock atm and having chilli for dinner.

had some left over chicken today along with 2 roast spuds, brought them to work and made wraps along with sweet corn and cheese then did them in a George forman for a few mins.

Tepid food isn't healthy, especially something like Indian - think of the germs and hygeine risk of food like that, it really isn't worth it :\

If it's been hot and simply cooled down over 10 minutes I don't really see the problem. Meat is often allowed to cool quite a lot before serving it. It's normal!

Not picking a fight but really don't get this. Why "especially something like Indian"? Isn't it pretty common for some people to eat leftover curry for breakfast? I've got friends who do. They don't die.

Knock's right.

Knock's always right ;) though he may be a bit mad at me :(

Yeh I really shouldn't have picked Indian food out there - any food eaten out that you don't know how its prepared n' cooked, should apply, especially meat dishes.

Meals that aren't piping hot, that may have been hanging around, could be harbouring bacteria. You have no idea how long a meal could have been hanging around in unhygienic conditions if it comes to you tepid - there's a risk there and its poor catering practise. It's good food hygiene to demand catered hot foods to be hot and cooked properly. Think of it as a harm reduction boys ;)

I adore cold leftovers, curry and pizza especially - as long as its been properly cooked, chilled and stored its all good ;)

Cold homemade quiche from last nights dinner, cooked by me, chilled and stored properly - with tomatoes and cucumber slices :D

If you go to a posh restaurant it's unlikely to be served piping hot. You can taste food better when it's warm, but not steaming.

You forgot to mention that Indians use their hands to wipe their arse, didn't you? ;)

This is what I am talking about.

Like you've ever been to posh places you gadge cunt, you think the new Mosque Kitchen is 'swanky' because it's inside and there's no pigeons walking about on the tables shitting everywhere :D

EDIT:
Just munched a load of chorizo, you get more than half your daily intake of salt and fat from a couple bites but fuck me it was good.

Dan that's fucking wrong mate. And for breakfast as well. Do you literally just grab whatever you can find and chuck it on a plate?

Don't eat a load of chorizo before bed especially if you've been boozing. I woke up with a sore stomach and major dehydration. Ugh.
