What would happen if drugs were legalised Part 2. Heroin

^ Pharmacists can't write scripts though.

I'm so confuse.

Pharmacists dispense the drugs; i'm pretty sure they can make some 'dissapear' if they wanted too. My pharmacist who's a long time friend told me that when he was studying he used to take all kinds of amphetmines to do cram sessions. I'm sure many other pharmacists have used some of there stocks once in a while. They data bases they use are hadly 100%. If stock gets old they throw it out. Thus potentially unlimited supplise could be 'thrown out'. Not a course in criminology but just a lesson in how easily a pharmacist could obtain anything they wanted. Dr's the same deal.

It all comes down to ethics and the oath they swear; IMO most pharmacists and Dr's are moralist wanks, and look down upon substance users so don't parly to diverting there meds.

Crikey/ legalisation of all drugs especially H would be very productive. Not just for me. think about how much crime is drug related (90 %) and how that would be affected. Actually money is the problem. get rid of that and cure the world. ( see Zietgeist )

I'd say one of the biggest plusses for the legalisation of heroin would be the massive decrease in those contracting HIV/AIDS through the sharing of dirty needles and associated equipment. These people would enjoy a better quality of life and the health system could be used for more important purposes.

Regarding pharmacists making some medications dissapear: A girl friend of mine works at the local pharmacy, and I asked her exactly that. "could you sneak stuff out without the Pharmacist knowing?" She said yeah, probably things like antibiotics, but I couldn't get opaites etc. I think because they keep those restricted substances under lock and key/in a locked safe or something.

She also said an Asian assistant pharmacist bloke who used to work there, got fired because he was caught stealing steroids and selling them to his mates.

So from what I understand, there are some prescription meds that can be attained, but not the ones that are likely to be abused ;)

I have been painted quite a different picture of what pharmacists can get and one of my most reliable oxy sources back in the day claimed to be middle manning through a pharmacist.

Its also interesting to note how much variation there is in pharmacists' attitudes...for example, yesterday I was getting a pack of Nurofen Plus for my boss, the assistant told the pharmacist and it was all good. Today I needed some for a painful tooth problem. Went to the same shop, different assistant but same pharmacist.

She approached me, said "how many of those are you taking in a day?".

I said "just as needed, usually 4-6 a day."

She says "Yeah, well I noticed you came in asking for those yesterday and we are only allowed to sell you them once every 5 days."

I replied "Oh okay, well the first pack wasn't for me, it was for my employer who had a migraine. This pack is for me because I've had a head-clash while playing club soccer", and showed her the lump on my scalp.

As I was telling her this, she didn't seem to be listening, just nodded and emphasised that I can only get a pack every 5 days - as though she didn't believe what I was saying.

Another point of difference I've noticed is when getting scripts filled. During the middle of February I was getting a script of oxy filled at a chemist. Left, came back 5 mins later and the pharmacist explained that I was being given a controlled substance, only stick to the recommended dose, asked me what it was for, to have them with fod, be careful, addictive etc. The assistant wasn't able to fill the script for me, had to be an actual pharmacist.

The other day I was getting a repeat of the same script filled at the chemist above (the Nurofen Plus one), where the same pharmacist was working. Gave the form to an assistant (not a pharmacist) and she proceeded to fill it for me without ever consulting a qualified pharmacist. Took her less than 5 minutes, handed it to me - no warnings, no advice or anything.

Just seemed ironic that the chemists who were so concerned I was buying 2 24-packs of N+ didn't bother to warn me about a much stronger substance. Whereas the other chemist doesn't care how many packs of N+ I buy, but as soon as you are getting a script for a controlled substance its a big deal.

Yeah, but saying you have a pharmacist hooking you up sounds better then knowing a pain patient or two who sells their script. ;)

I have heard from multiple people though who say they get their pharmaceuticals from throw-aways so maybe there is something to that.

I'm not sure about pharmacists, but apparently there's been quite a lot of attention recently on the abuse of morphine/oxycodone by doctors. I doubt there's much distribution going on though, it sounded mostly like they were just nabbing what they could for personal use.

I assume most of it is just pain patients selling there meds. U can get a 100 fold return on ur meds so it's lucrative.

As for heroin license wouldn't work as well. Be similiar to alcohol being allowed to over 18s. Teens still manage to.
Just think proper education campaigns and rehab options would have to be in place. After all harm minimization is all about realizing harm can never be completly removed only limited.
