I remember the days of Kazaa where all that was played back home was Eurostyle Techno and Hardstyle. Back when we went to rave not rage...

Some of my favorite tracks from back in the day...

for me, it was unashamed, epic trance like:

i did that for a while and then went looking for something a little harder and found psytrance. never looked back...

First electronic cd I purchased over 20 years ago. EDM never sucked me in though, I only went to raves for the drugs.

I was into eletronic music since I was 14 when I found Daft Punk..it all went from there. I am 23 now and can never recall "raves" though. I always saw them as eletronic shows but I also never did anything at those shows either, drug wise. I feel drugs make it more of a rave for me. Although, it really depends on the music being played. Some hardcore dubstep gives off a feel of a rock show almost...it's a like a modern day kids rock show haha, just my two cents. I went to shows in NYC and I live in Upstate NY now...raves are becoming more popular around here, PLUR is alive it seems (as I never experienced that idea when I was younger).

After 14 years the song still sounds great!

I've always enjoyed dance music, and use to listen to the Itunes Trance radio station back in the day and play COD 2 all night, back before I even really knew what electronic music was.

But as for the one genre that got me into EDM? Hardstyle. Went to my first rave, heard that Kick and Bass and instantly fell in love.

This song started it all for me. A classic.

it all started for me with the chemical brothers heard on npr in grade school. i was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS I NEED MORE. and then I went online and found more. and to this day I'm still looking and I still need more more more more more <3

I was a freshman in high school, and a friend who was a fullblown candy kid me on. My introduction to edm was Ian van Dahl, Paul Oakenfold, Ayla. From there the progression went to Crystal Method, Prodigy. Breaks, then a big dnb phase. My newest infatuation has been dubstep, but I still harbor a huge appreciation for everything else as well.

it was something caspa, probably caspa and rusko.

i was nodding with some friends two years ago and they started some dubstep after we were all high, it was fucking awesome.

i've been in <3 ever since

This exact video/minimix. Before this I had never (by my own will) heard of any EDM, apart from Smack my bitch up, and didn't know the stuff really existed until then.

I´d say eurodance, trance and drum and baseish tunes sucked me into the EDM when I was a kid.
Stuff like gabber house and techno where a bit repulsive to me, but I learned to enjoy those genres when I got older. :)

Here is one of those classic drum and baseish tunes from Gran Turismo!

I started REALLY getting into EDM a little over a year ago. Before I did, friends would listen to Dubstep (Skrillex, etc.) which I thought was a bunch of bullshit noise. I'm usually open to a wide variety of genres, being a musician myself; anything from jazz, metal, rock, funk, reggae, etc. Dubstep did not do it to me but eventually some other friends got me into the rave scene and I really started digging trance, house, electro, DnB, certain kinds of Dubstep, and most recently hardstyle. I'm the furthest thing from an old school raver, as I'm completely new, but I enjoy both the 90s styles and modern stuff. Here are a few songs that got me into EDM.

dnb started to suck me into edm, but it was goa trance, which is like a black hole among other styles of music, that really sucked me in. from a black hole there is no escape, but once you reach the singularity, a whole new galaxy consisting wholly of psytrance opens.
