What is Popping?

What is popping? I know it's dancing but what is it?
I was listening to someone talk and he was talking about popping and he was swearing that knew the beats before they even came up and he would actually hear popping...What the hell??

this is at least my definition of popping, or the way that i do it. it's not fluid like the liquid but a series of movement where you pause on a beat then start moving again on the next one. Ive been doing this for almost a year now but this is the first time ive actually tried to explain it. hop on a search engine and type in breakdancing, popping along time ago i found a page that defined different types of styles.
