What is "now"

you say you want to know what now is, eh?

Domokun stop trying to kill my threads, you can do that to your own :P.

Can we all stop focusing on the notion that now is in the past? Now is in the now, the now from 1 second ago is in the past but i'm focusing on the ever-intriguing notion that now is forever linked to the next moment and that now is infinite, that all time is connected and that everything that ever is and ever will be is all one long moment and we seperate these moments into smaller moments and label them hours, minutes, seconds. i'm still a little confused by my own logic tbh. if all of time and space were to be condensed it would be one singularity, i like to think that this singularity still exists (or the essense of it at least) and all that happens and has happened is an extension of it. What confuses me is: if all moments are an extension of this singularity, why do we experience this moment? why this now? why not another?

Tl;dr: Everything is now but why do we experience this now, the one between the past and future now?

Edit: let me rephrase: how did we come to exist in this now?

No doubt our mental/spiritual essence is imbued with a potential of consciousness, which lies on a continuum of intensity, meaning we can become conscious enough in a moment to perceive a "now". That threshold can't really be quantified.

I reason that we are propelled by outside stimuli to become aware or conscious enough to recognize a now. The short answer: its not up to us, but to what's outside of us.

Does that resonate at all?

I'd argue pain brings you into the moment more than pleasure.

And I'd say that pain is a more powerful motivator, but whether or not it brings, and keeps you in the moment is entirely subjective. When pleasure centers us and brings us into the moment, it is fleeting. When pain brings us into the moment, it is unrelenting. Think of our response to good news as opposed to bad news. When we receive good news, we feel momentary relief, and quickly begin to fixate on other problems. Thus being unappreciative of the good news. Yet when we receive bad news, we cling to the memory long after it transpired. Pain is more impactful, but that impact can put you in the past as much as it can center you and put you in the present. What makes the difference is how the person responds to pain—whether it stagnates them or is the catalyst that pushes them forward.

IIts simply the only time that really ever exists...RIGHT NOW. Future and past are mind made up thoughts. Sadly people are pnly eevr thinking of the future and past where as life is only in the present, and even although that is the truth we go on living mentally in the futre and past and miss the real existence of the present. RIGHT HERE AND NOW. IF A PERSON CAN REALLY BE AWARE OF THE PRESENT they will realise how much more meaningful and alive their life can become....

It's kind of hard not to be aware of the present, because it's all we have. Whether we are reminiscing, observing or planning, it's all done in present awareness.
