ahhhh this is an easy one. I'll use accessable language rather than go all chemical on you though I hope it'll help.

Simon's is designed to be used once you have a reading from another reagent. eg Marquis. Simon's tests for the presense of what is called a secondary amine. Basically its used to test for a slight variation in the same basic chemical.

eg testing Orange->Brown with marquis is speed reaction. If you then test with Simons and it goes Blue then you have
Methamphetamine. The 'meth' part in your favourite drugs is the secondary amine. Without that Simon's reaction you would have just plain ol' regular amphetamine.

Another example is for MDMA. MDMA is short for 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (notice again that 'meth' is highlighted). If you tested this with marquis you could get purple->black and with Simon's you would get that same blue colour. Again there is a secondary amine present so simon's reacts.

What if you got purple->black with Marquis an no result with Simons I hear you ask? Easy - that means you have MDA. This is short for 3,4-Methylenedioxyamphetamine
^
Notice there is no meth part in there.

Just remember:
Marquis to do your initial test
Simon's to narrow down your test result.

thanx

thanx alot , i thought it was methamphetamine, but i just wanted to be sure. but one more thing, what do you us the rodadope for???

robadope is the only test with which you can prove that there is a primary amine present. examples of primary amines are mda, dexamphetamine, pma, benzylamine. Personally I think the absence of a reaction with Simon's does not verify the presence of a primary amine such as mda. IN other words, when you see purple black with marquis and no reaction with simon's, you cannot say for sure that you are dealing with mda.
