Hi please move this to the mental health forum.

What do you do when you have anxiety or panic attacks? Benzos are not an option for me. I tried cognitive behavioural therapy with a few therapists it either didn't work or stopped working. I have taken low doses of lexapro and zoloft and it works but sometimes stops working. Anyone have any advice? I eat right, exercise, don't use drugs and I meditate.

I feel for you.

For me, Kratom helps sometimes with my social anxiety so you could try that.

I really think benzos should always be made available for people with anxiety.

Please move this to the thread I made that was moved. Thanks.

I don't want to use kratom as that's addictive, and I used to binge drink alcohol at times, and at rare times even take or binge on other drugs so I just quit using all of them since I figured they wouldn't help anxiety/panic.

I can't use benzos either due to the rebound effects (panic attacks, soul-crushing depression, etc). Anti-anxiety meds and booze aren't the best option for treating anxiety long-term. I find Valerian root and kava helpful when combined with self-calming techniques...deep breathing, visualization, etc. Some people get relief from SSRIs and other antidepressants. Some don't.

Well benzos are usually more addictive than Kratom and to be honest almost any effective drug is going to be addictive so are you basically asking what to do for anxiety aside from using ALL drugs??

Meditation, exercise, therapy, diet, hypnosis are all helpful, but again, ALL effective drugs are addictive for the most part.

I don't really understand why anyone with SEVERE anxiety would be against using any drug personally and as this is a drug forum it's kind of strange to ask here if you are against all drug use but more power to you.

Build self confidence confront whatever scares u makes u panic , its just panic ur not gonna die etc... I have suffered severe anxiety for 13 years and sometimes a benzo is absolutely critical in my experience . Kava , phenibut camomile passionflower etc.. But oxazepam is the only that works when its bad

You could easily find answers to these questions by simply browsing a few threads in the subforum http://www.bluelight.org/vb/forums/58-Other-Drugs.

I'm not sure why you think someone should take the time to move a thread for you everyday.

Q1: No
Q2: If you take benzos long enough there is a high probability you will feel some short of withdrawal once you stop.
Q3: probably
Q4: There are many reports of "rebound anxiety"

Rebound anxiety
Several anxiolytics and hypnotics have a rebound effect. For example, benzodiazepine withdrawal can cause severe anxiety and insomnia worse than the original insomnia or anxiety disorder.[1] Approximately 70% of patients who discontinue benzodiazepine experience a rebound effect.[2] Rebound symptoms can be a factor in chronic use of medications and long-term drug dependence, with some patients continuing to take certain medications only to ward off the unpleasant and sometimes crippling symptoms of two distinct phenomena: physical withdrawal and the rebound effect.[3]

check out wikipedia and pubmed.

Thanks for the info I didn't know about the wiki here. So if benzos make anxiety and panic worse in the long run why are they so prescribed and why do people take them?

Many people with panic attacks and anxiety disorders benefit from using benzos. I believe nowadays, doctors are more careful about prescribing them long term because they are habit forming. (at least here in the U.S.) But if the benefit outweighs the risk, doctors can make the decision to keep a patient on them indefinitely if it's really needed and other drugs aren't helping.

Benzos Are essential for some people like myself to stay level , not optional

Benzos do not always make anxiety worse in the long run and for the most part they didn't for me.

It happens some of the time and some of the time it doesn't.

I'm not even sure if it happens half of the time but it's pretty hard to say.

They are certainly found to often be effective at least in the short term but can have side effects.

Considering the research used for the source I wouldn't pay much attention to the 70% number on the wiki page. It's impossible to get an accurate number regarding how often benzos cause the ostensible "rebound effect".

probably should have posted this link:

Some people who take possibly addictive substances for a real medical condition and who fear abusing them give the majority of their medication to someone they trust, and take only what they need for the week, or even the day.

I use benzos as sparingly as I can to tame the beast then look inwardly and outwardly. You might not always be able to put your finger on the exact cause of your panic/anxiety since it is such a complex issue, but you WILL always be able to overcome it. Time heals all. Talking about it helps immensely. So does exercise, meditation, and social interaction. Drugs are sometimes necessary but not as a permanent cure. I'm not a big fan of ssri's for anxiety. It helps to learn to live in the moment and truly appreciate everything going on around you right now. The future and past are just other points in spacetime with different versions of you. Feel the consciousness that flows through you and let you troubles melt away. Good luck.
