What are you munching on? v. the cheese n' fish cake crew

Quorn escalopes, beans and hash browns on the way :)

I want some butternut squash Kate! Had a pumpkin, spinach, pine nut and goats cheese lasagne at the local pub the other day, was <3

And wibz, you'd better send us some of those! :D

Arg, THe man ate the last two slices. So, I made myself a taco. Then he had to have a taco. Waste not want not. At least it's getting used up before it goes off.

Am I the only one who doesn't get tacos?. I mean, they just disintegrate before they reach your mouth.

I just had one of those so-called 'fuller for longer' things M&S do. Some spicy meat ball with pasta affair. Not bad at all.

I rather like tacos but they are seriously messy things. Feasted 'pon Sadie's tacos a while back. Very tasty but you don't half have to fight the kids to the cheese 8o

In "fuller for longer" news, my biryani was very tasty but wanted more barely an hour after munching. Often the case with rice-based dishes, I find :\

Yeah, for two skinny kids you certainly have to get in there fast! Especially with Melted Cambembert and Crusty bread. YIKES!

I always found rice dishes to keep me full for hours.

Think I'm gonna make some home made chicken noodle soup tomorrow. ( sans Chicken) Just Chicken stock and some onions, carrots and pasta. Yummy and rather filling. In fact, I think I have some Leeks in there that need using. Hmmm

I've never made French Onion soup from scratch. It's such a yummy soup too. If you get it just right, it tastes a little beefy. Ummmmm

Mmm... soup. Homemade is great, tinned is great, even instapowdered is great. I <3 soup <3

Sadie: I wish I had your rice-filling gene cos mine is totally broken. Just had to hit the biryani for a third helping. To be fair it wasn't a massive amount I made in the first place and there's still 1/4 left - seems to get me on the (sort of) little and (definitely) often thang. Damn tasty but not a proper layered biryani with a nice veggie curry on the side to balance it like wot it should be.

PS: Doesn't French Onion Soup taste beefy cos it's generally made with beef stock? Fine soup either way. With the obligatory hunk of toasted cheese baguette floating atop, naturally :)

you have to reduce it for ages, it is very annoying, but it comes out very rich and beefy indeed.

slowly sweating tonnes of onions in some butter and olive oil for what seems like ages and ages is a pain to, but its very basic. a little bit of garlic, beef stock, i never salted it because i dont have a salty tooth and the stock is very salty as it is, but lots of black pepper. think you can even use a splash of red wine too and a bit ot thyme.

dont forget the giant croutons with cheese, lol.

it is actually very easy and very econmical to make

it becomes very salty and deep rich beefy but also sweet from the onions. oh i forgot, after slowly sauting them for ages like half an hour u add some flour to a dry roux and then u gradually add the stock and wine.

simmer for hmm, maybe 45 mins and u got french onion soup classico. bon appetite!...

its so cheap, a couple of very very large spanish onions, the strongest and biggest you can find, or use up loads of ones lying round the house if not, stock cube believe it or not is absolutley fine, id make it a bit more watery than normal because of the saltiness and it still reduces and concentrates for ages during cooking anyway. the wine is not essential, dried thyme is more than adequate. it is cheap as chips, and excels any tin or packet you may come across

It's got to be Heinz Tomato if it's not home made, with a nice crusty roll for dipping mmmmm....!

I just had a scrummy roast dinner with Yorkhire puds the lot, it was beautiful. I am sufficiently full to the brim but that doesn't stop me contemplating the chocolate biscuits in the cupboards :). Nom nom nom.

Can't beat chocolate biscuits! I had Covent Garden goa carnival soup for tea, was on offer, some kind of spicy cauliflower and coconut thing. Yum :D Had a sandwich too, and maltesers. Diet not going so well! :P

Mmm I like those Covent Garden things they are really nice, they always seem to have interesting flavours. I think the Maltesers should be allowed it is Monday after all. :P
