What are you munching on? v. Noodle nights n greedy monkeys

Probably not. Just some mash I think. Maybe some courgettes and some mixed veg. I really can't be asked cooking today. I just want to laze about to be honest. I know that aint gonna happen but It's my mission to do as little as possible today.

Marmite on toast trip report. [X.O,extra old version]

I awoke early this morning feeling hungry and wearily walked into the kitchen looking for some munch. I suddenly remembered i had purchased a jar of Marmite X.O version which was a jar packaged in a neat little black cardboard box. As everyone else was still in bed ,i thought this would be an ideal opportunity to sample said product.

Being the hardcore guy that i am i decided to go for FOUR slices of Kingsmill white bread. I placed bread in toaster and unscrewed the jar of Marmite.

By this time the sence of anticipation and nervousness was becoming overwhelming,i was slightly shaking.

The toast popped up and i hastily grabbed the Olivio spread from the fridge and frantically applied with knife.I then dipped the knife into the Marmite applying a thick glob to the slice of toast. This was repeated to the other three slices.

Now the real test. I took a huge bite,my mouth started to salivate wildly and my taste buds went into overdrive. A calming sense of euphoric satisfaction swept over me,all was good with the world but no visuals. This became more intense with every bite and i ended up consuming all four slices leaving me satisfied and extremely contented.

Overall,a very pleasant experience. I would say that four slices was rather excessive for a first time trial. Marmite really is a love it or hate it experience, and i would say that the X.O version is for the hardcore only. First timers, use ONE slice only with minimal Marmite application.

I will be stocking up on this. It is currently legal so am getting it in before the inevitable ban. Stay safe.
I havent seen this substance is it a kind of marmite freebase none of my vendors stock it can someone point me in the right direction.

Homemade leek and potato soup I made yesterday, with lots of black pepper. Even if I say so myself, it's fucking delicious.

That sounds tasty Adam. I've got some mash left over from yesterday I was gonna make a Potato and broccoli soup out of today or tomorrow. Yours sounds yummy.

Gr kate you're reinforcing a cirry craving I have after walking down bricklane recently!

Went to GBK last night as I had a voucher, pretty good although the size of the actual burger has decreased significantly which is a bit >=|

It was! :D Wish I had made more and didn't have to share it! :p

Not made my own soup for ages, need to do it more often, but I am lazy. :|

I think tonight I'll be cooking up some nice Rump steaks with some loaded potato skins and sweet corn. Mmmm.

Never did make my soup today Kinda had a late breakfast. Think I'll get started on it tonight so it'll be ready tomorrow.

I paid £7.25 for a rotten burger in a pub today. I only went in because I thought it was burger and pint for £3.99 but it didn't start till 3pm. So ordered a 'New Yorker'. Sposed to be a prime Scottish beef burger with spicy peppers and onions and soured cream with fresh salad & home made chips. The burger it's self was dry as fuck and cheap and nasty, there was 2 tiny bits of sliced (non spicy) red peppers on it and about half a teaspoon of onion. The salad consisted of one manky bit of past it's best lettuce. The chips were blatently not homemade.

Aw Spade that totally sucks. I feel your pain. Went with a mate and the other half out to dinner and ended up in a burger joint. I was right pissed off at what I got. Don't get me wrong it wasnt as bad as what you describe but why pay that much for something you KNOW you can make at home. Not only cheaper but of a much higher standard.

That's bad luck there spade. :(

I hope you complained. If no one made constructive remarks about my food then I'd never better myself. And, if they don't give a fuck bettering themselves then fuck them. Tell them their food was wank. Ya know, If you found you didnt like the burger after three bites you could have just said it was rubbish and you're not paying.

I didn't complain, wasn't making a scene over a burger. And you pay when you order so I'd already paid.

You can get your money back. I just see it as I would clothes. Why would I buy something that doesnt fit even though the label clearly says it should. I'm not rude about it, in fact quite the opposite as its not the wait staff's fault the food is sub-par. Goodness, sometimes its not even the cooks fault ( management / owners guidlines ) but I do not pay for a meal that is not enjoyable.

If I find fault with it and I think its disgusting to eat I am well with in my rights to say so and not pay. I don't do it often so it takes a particularly nasty meal for me to refuse payment. I will explain why I don't wish to pay in a polite but direct manner. There's nothing personal in it.

I, personally would like to run my own restaurant. If my food is in any way substandard I would appreciate the feed back. That being said, constructive feed back. If I own the place and the patron were just being a dick then I'd show them the door. I'd still take on board what they're saying but only with a pinch of salt mind. -

Disgusting probably would be an over statement, it was edible it just wasn't very good or worth the money.

Pity, but many people are happy to eat crap :\ McDonald's n' the like make a fortune because of this. It's cheap and easy...

Tonight I made the man a burger made from aberdeen angus beef, slow roasted red onions, strong scottish cheese and bacon, mustard mayo etc. I had roasted veggies and a bit of burger. It was absolutely delish :)

I'm planning to make a meat loaf - any hints and tips from you EADD cooks? I've got my mum's recipe and don't want to waste quality ingredients, but I'm up for some culinary experimentation!

Oooh, I always put a thick sweet tomato sauce on top of my Meat loaf. THe loaf itself containing largly chopped onion. Yummy. The O/H does not like meat loaf so it's been a while since I've had it. I love Meat loaf Served with mashed potato ( preferably very creamy bad for you mash ) and Fried or steamed okra. YUMMY! Bet it would go nice with a bit of Kale too.

Edit : The sauce I make is a cheat too. Ketsup with Light brown SUGAR, worster sauce, powdered mustard, onion salt and a dash of garlic granules. Also, I like putting garlic in my meat loaf.

The tomato sauce sounds lovely. I was going to make onion gravy with it.

My mum's recipe uses beef, some smoked bacon and sausage, onion and finely grated carrot - sage and whatnot. It's been a long while since I had it and I doubt I'll be able to reproduce it the way she did it. I'll just have to learn to make my own version :)

Glad my OH requested it.

I was gonna just go to Maccy Dee's because it's cheap and cheerful but I had a lot of time to waste. Wish I had because a Maccy Dee's burger would have been better than the one I had today. Was so dry and tasteless, was supposed to be one of their premium luxury burgers too.

Meant to say in the first post. Typo, Its Light brown SUGAR. Its a sweet tomato sauce with a bit of bite to it. Works perfect with meat loaf. Never had a meat loaf the way yer mam does it though. If it turns out quite nice would you mind posting the recipe? Sounds lush.
