What are you munching on? v. Noodle nights n greedy monkeys

Woo hoo, I've got dinner on the go. Got my bottle of Liquid smoke in the post the other day. Had to get Mesquite as they were out of Hickory. I'm making slow cooked BBQ pulled pork. Should have really started it yesterday for two day cooking but its on the go now. Gonna serve with Salad, home made fully loaded potato skins and buttered corn on the cob. Tay-stee.

Think me and the boy are gonna make our marinade today and soak us some beef for home made beef Jerky. First time trying it. Fingers crossed.

Trying to cure my terrible hangover :( Alcohol really is a shit drug..

Potato Waffles, melted Cheese, Ham, BBQ Sauce with loads of Black Pepper.

Pretty good =D

Right this second some smoked chilli cheese. Ate a couple sausage rolls not long ago. Had a cracking lamb curry earlier at the mosque.

About to start cookin a chicken leek and potato soup, leftover chicken carcass from Saturday, leeks, shallots, and potatos from allotment....

Eating nectarines in the meantime. <3

Chicken fried rice with blackbean sauce. Was skeptical that the sauce would work with chicken but it was not bad. The fried rice was brilliant, I hardly ever make it but I will more often now.

So much food today, I feel guilty.
Highlight was a load of sushi from the japancentre. Got some inarizushi, fit.

^
I had to look inarizushi up and the first thing it come up with was "sushi in a bean bag" haha - great image! :D

Made a tasty plum tomato and mushroom omelette for breakies. Have a protein craving at the moment.

eating sausages.

Mainly to take away the taste of cannabutter, rank shit, but I ran out of gingernuts, and can't make any more cos me son is up, and there's no way I'm gonna make a massive batch of canna-biscuits in front of his face, he's 4 and wouldn't quite get why he can't have some...

^^never been into Japanese cooking, went out with a girl a few years ago who was pretty good with sushi (not a euphemism 8) ), one of them things i keep meaning to do, I catch a fair few fish, so have access to spanking fresh quality fish, but sadly Dartmoor villages are not overflowing with Japanese foodmarkets....

Aww 4, how cute! Can you not make a special batch for dad and a unspecial batch for the boy?

lol, would NOT trust meself not to get them mixed up, I know its highly unlikely, but don't even want to think about that one.....

No, I'll manage today and tomorrow with the butter, and then get a new batch made tomorrow night after he gone bed

http://www.japancentre.com/ mail order japanese food supplies!

Thanks wibble, must now conquer my fear of fancy, fiddly cooking and have a go....

Tell me wibble, i've always preferred sashimi to sushi, mainly cos I love fish, and generally the sushi I've tried I've found rather stodgy (think supermarket prepacked sushi) and bland....

where would be a good place for me to start? i'm a good cook, and am happpy to spend time in the kitchen....what are the essentials i'd need to get going?

Can you give me any pointers? Heavy on the fish and flavours, light on the rice.

Just make some sushi rolls, that's probably easier. Buy some nori, rice wine vinegar, mirin, a sushi rolling mat and maybe some dashi powder for the the Japan centre. Also get wasabi and pickled ginger if you like it, although I'm aware some (silly) people don't like them. You could buy the sushi rice but technically all you need is a short grain variety of rice.

This site seems to go through every stage of making sushi: http://www.sushifaq.com/homesushi/howtomakesushiathomemaki.htm

You can use the dashi and mirin with some soy and water to make a nice dipping sauce. I put a bit of mirin in with the vinegar that goes into the rice, and I like cooking my rice with some dashi but i'm sure sushi chefs are frowning at me right now.

6 chicken nuggets, medium fries & a cheeseburger washed down with Irn Bru. Dunno why I've eaten so many Maccy Dee's recently.

I think I've had one once a week for the past few like. Usually not arsed about them. Think I'm done now for a while. Eating tons of pizza recently as well. Too much junk.
