Misc Wellbutrin - Is it worth it for appetite control ?

Hello there,
I've never taken any reuptake inhibitors in my life, mostly because their mechanisms of work are poorly understood and the withdrawal symptoms are pretty harsh.
However,
A lot of recent studies show that dopamine agonists and higher dopamine levels in general mimick the effects of leptin in the brain and thus appetite is diminished while fat burning is increased somewhat. Add some norepinephrine to that cocktail and it should be a wonder.

Wellbutrin is an NDRI and multiple studies show that it works pretty nice in obesity trials. I am not obese in any way however I've always had just a bit more appetite that I should have and thus I can't deal with those love handles.
Plus I'm thinking some additional dopamine and N-epi can help me in social situations and what not.

What are your thoughts. Considering the harsh withdrawal symtpoms, is it worth it ? Thanks.

During several years on Wellbutrin, I experienced no weight gain or loss, and no changes in appetite. The tricyclic Elavil, the first antidepressant I ever took back in the pre-SSRI days, made me gain a few pounds despite my then-Spartan and healthy diet. I considered it a worthwhile trade-off at the time.

But Wellbutrin? My experiences, and those of intimates who've taken it and discussed it with me: none of us gained weight or had an appetite spike. Your mileage may vary, of course, but my Magic 8-Ball reads, "It seems unlikely." Good luck!

Although it's only my opinion - although why else would you be here - playing with DA & NE mechanisms should be the last resort to control weight. There are SO many other healthier and better understood methods. Western philosophy tends to favor taking a pill to solve your problems, but this is where people run into problems. Almost any chemical - especially psychotropics - that you put in your body come with a slew of unwanted side effects. It is unlikely that these effects outweigh (no pun intended) the benefits of any possible appetite suppression.

I don't think any of our subjective opinions should matter since everyone's body chemistry is unique. One size does NOT fit all.

I for one, react horribly to every type of antidepressant out there, and Pinpoint illustrated such a great point, that western medicine is all about taking a pill to solve your problems, but why do you think this is pushed so heavily in western culture? Follow the trail of money and you'll see. Chemicals are unlikely to be the solution to your problem, they are often a bandaid for a gunshot wound.

I have been taking Wellbutrin 150mg only per day for just over 2 weeks and have noticed a significant weight loss after about 10 days. I was alarmed and it prompted me to look into the side effects and yes, weight loss is one. I cannot fit into any of my jeans which were extra tight on me a few weeks ago and I have to remind myself to eat or I get light headed. This is very unusual for me as I love food and ate a lot. Im not suggesting as a weight loss tool though. BTW works well as an antidepressant so far.

Whenever I was prescribed (thankfully off of it now) I experienced no change in eating patterns and I think its also supposed to control smoking cessitation but neither of those came into effect for me. With the extreme chest pain I experienced and irregular heart beat I would say no to your question but then again everyone had different side effects.
