Introduction

The purpose of this forum is to give all the new people a chance to introduce themselves to the rest of Bluelight. You are not required to introduce yourself but some people think it is a good way to get started.

New Member Introductions is really for people who are finding Bluelight for the first time, but if you have been gone for more than a few months you are free to re-introduce yourself.

New Member Introductions is not a drug discussion forum. If you are looking for specific information upon your arrival, please indicate so and we will direct you to the proper forum. In most cases, using the search engine prior to asking your question will most likely provide numerous results.

Should you ask questions relating to specific methods, your thread will be moved to the appropriate forum.

Personal Information

Think very carefully before stating any personal details on your profile. It's a good thing to say roughly where you're from, but I would discourage including your name, email address, myspace profile, and so on. At least until you're comfortable with how things work. :)

Looking for Drugs?

I would like to make it crystal clear to anyone that tries to use Bluelight as a source of drug hook-ups:

WE ARE NOT HERE TO HELP YOU SCORE DRUGS!

Anyone attempting to do so will have their message deleted, and will receive a warning or even be banned from the site.

Greenlighter? Bluelighter?

First of all, a Greenlighter is a new member who has made less than 20 posts.

During this phase of your membership, you will not be able to:

  • Use the Private Messaging (PM) system, except for sending to and receiving from Moderators and Admins.
  • Upload images to the Gallery.
  • Attach files to messages.
  • Insert hyperlinks or images into posts.

Once you have made 20 posts, you will become a Bluelighter and the above privileges will be granted. Please note that it can sometimes take up to an hour for this change to take affect.

Until then, if you want to contact another member please use the "Send a message via email" link on that member's profile page. Be warned though that some people will have that option turned off.

Tips On Making Your Introduction

What makes a good introductory post for someone new to Bluelight? Well, here are some suggestions that you may or may not wish to use while making your very own introduction post in NMI.

  • A nice hello - greet others as you would like to be greeted.
  • Tell us the reason that you came to Bluelight. This helps the staff and members when making suggestions as to which forums may be of interest to you. Do this even if you have already visited some forums.
  • Include other interests that you have, such as being a student, interest in films, video games, meeting other bluelighters, etc.
  • DON'T ASK HOW TO SCORE DRUGS!
  • Don't ask specifics about certain drugs, events, or what have you. If you are looking for information regarding specific drugs, events, etc., we will point you to the correct forum where your question can be asked. We strongly advise that you use the search engine and read the forum's rules and guidelines prior to making your post!

New Member Introductions Threads of Interest

Here in NMI, we have several threads that may be of interest to you. There are some threads which may not be listed, such as the NMI social forum, which gets archived after a while.

NMI Guidelines: Existing Bluelighters - How To Properly Greet New Members

We encourage both new and established Bluelighters and staff to stop by and welcome new members. We do ask, however, that you make the new members feel welcome.

Here are some tips on how to greet new members:

  • Give a friendly and personalized hello - please do NOT make carbon copy posts to new members by copy and pasting.
  • Find someone in your area or similar interests? Point them to your favorite forum which may be of interest to them. This also includes the wonderful social threads that have been developing in many of the forums.
  • See a new member that may need help getting through forums or the site? Offer to adopt them. NMI has a wonderful adoption program that has become quite successful. :)
  • Think the new user's name is the bees knees? Tell them you'd like to nominate them for the current Best User Name competition.
  • Most importantly, be friendly. Do NOT scare the new users away, please. :)
  • Don't point newcomers to wrong forums, purposely or not. If you are not sure where to point a new member, then please don't do it. Someone who has more experience with Bluelight will guide him/her anyway.
  • Many new members (and old ones) often do not read the forum guidelines. Sometimes there will be questions asked in NMI that do NOT belong in this forum. If you see a post or a thread that should not be in NMI, please use the REPORT function. Threads and posts can be missed by staff, and the problem can be resolved by reporting the post or thread. Do NOT just tell the user they have posted in the wrong forum. By doing this, the original poster may start a similar thread in one or more forums where the question should not be asked.

Thanks :)

maybe we should clarify what is ok and not ok to put into an intro. post? i know a few of the noobs were curious, what with the recent flood of noobs using opiates/opioids and curious as to what they can mention and what is dicksizing? just a thought.

the sand...it squishes between my toes. =D

ideas?

i was thinking:
mini-bio, reason for coming to BL (to help us direct them), other interests (more for the community forums?), and anything else?

for instance:
hi! i'm eras3r! i'm from the midwest. i found bluelight looking for rave event information and to meet new people. aside from going to parties, i'm a college student, i enjoy video games, and i enjoy socializing with new people on the internet. =D

we can also give suggestions to blers how to welcome noobs?
like asking them not to bump older threads and posting carbon copy welcomes like "welcome to bl" etc

how's that?

should we make a separate thread for established BLers and how to greet them? or post that at the bottom of this one?

and to felix, i thought HTML wasn't able to be read here? i'm confused. :(

you can allow html in announcements. and to allow the title to be made big/colourful/flashy it needs to be html. (i think.) :)

don't you guys worry about that though. just edit the original above to look like whatever you want it to look like.

imo we can add it at the bottom of this, it will be a short list i guess, right?

Tips For Greeting Greenlighters

  • Give a friendly hello, and make the new users feel welcome!
  • Please don't bump older threads. This is counter productive as many noobs move on from NMI shortly after posting their introduction post.
  • Try not to use carbon copy responses when greeting new users. Make them unique and personal.

Anything else?
