About 6 mo. ago I was prescribed vyvanse for ADD and started at 30 mg. I eventually bumped up to 70mg and everything was going great. I never had any unusual side effects until one day I had a severe panic attack and cardiovascular distress. It was very scary and I figured the dose was too high. After a few days off I went back to my doc and he lowered dose back down to 30 mg.

The problem is whenever I try taking the 30 mg dose I immediately started having the same severe anxiety symptoms. I figured it had to be all in my head because I had taken a much higher dose for a long time w/o side effects, but now every time I take even a minimum dose it sends me into a panic state. Im worried that I have altered my brain chemistry some way or developed some kind of intolerance/allergy. Has anyone ever experienced this? Why could I take a high dose before and feel great but now low dose is debilitating? Please help I cant figure out whats wrong

This is an acquired panic response. Sometimes when people have a bad trip with a drug (usually stimulants/psychedelics), their body "remembers" the circumstances, and makes you panic when you recognize the effects of the drug (increased blood pressure, heart rate etc). It's really common when people combine amphetamine and THC or caffeine. Part of how amphetamine works is by releasing norepinephrine, which is part of the fight-or-flight response, so it's to be expected that some people will panic.

Aside from taking a long break or taking mild sedatives along with your amphetamine (try some herbal tea or something, breathing excercises, meditation), there's not a lot you can do. If you're on 30mg of Vyvanase you shouldn't be in any physical danger so you should work on convincing yourself of that. If you can have one good experience without panic, then in future it will only get easier to do so.

30mg is a pretty low dose. That's ~10mg amp. I would look into another agent. If you can find out what environmental stressor precipitated the attack then you might be able to behaviorally alter your response. I wouldn't take any additional drugs for what you're experiencing, though, that's setting yourself up for a poly-drug addiction as well as more imminent hazards.
