It's been 8 days since my vivatrol shot and I heard you could break through the barrier. I'm going to try and double my dose because I have a feeling it will work definetley

Hey tommyboy767 -

You will not break through the barrier - won't happen. Sorry. There are a few other threads regarding Vivitrol that have been created in the last week regarding users who have made it the full 30 days and they are not feeling anything. Please do not attempt to try to use more as you can literally OD without feeling anything. I had a close friend of mine die because she was desparate to get high and kept shooting up. According to friends who were with her when it happened, she never felt it. Also, don't bother trying to drink either as that's blocked also. You'll get none of the benefit but you'll feel gross and you'll be fully aware of how off your coordination and sensory perception is.

I actually used Vivitrol to get clean from alcohol, though it was a process and didn't happen immediately. I got the shot prior to rehab, and would use at the tail end of the shot and found that for me, I couldn't feel anything until about day 40, which seems to follow suit with what opiate addicts report, though I certainly tried beginning on day 28. It was disappointing and frustrating. Eventually I went to rehab and then started on the shot the last day I was there. I stayed on it for 8 months, and have been sober for 2 years now.

Right now you want to use, but you can't get high, so I think the best thing you can do is to try to focus on anything else. I know the frustration, and the longer you dwell on it the worse you're going to feel. If you can, go hang out with other people to keep your mind occupied. You may not feel like it, but you won't be alone ruminating about your situation. If not that try eating or rigorous excersize. Both can trip a mild dopamine response, which will be a little gratification. I'm not one to flippantly recommend exercise as I personally don't enjoy it, but I found it does help. If nothing else, going for a run will drain your energy so your too tired to be frustrated.

Did you get the shot by choice?

this will be the 3rd time this week I am responding to a getting high on vivitrol thread...

you can shoot as many bags as you want, and you will not feel a thing. At this point is just going to be a waste of your money. You probably won't listen though and will try to get high and then be very disappointed when you shoot 2 or 3 buns and feel no more than 5% (if that) of the high.

thats right, you'd shoot 30 bags only to feel about 5% of the high... totally worth it right?

I am just so disgusted with this vivitrol shit I can't take it anymore, I'm not even on it I just feel sorry for you people that are. This vivitrol sure stops you from getting high but it doesn't do anything to stop you WANTING to get high...

Ill say the same thing I always say OP, get off this wretched shit and get on suboxone maintenance.

I don't understand why you're disgusted with Vivitrol for doing what it's supposed to be doing. It has been a lifesaver for some people, myself included. It's a great tool to help people who want to get sober but are struggling on their own. I don't think it's fair to be so negative regarding Vivitrol as it conveys a message that people shouldn't consider it, which is a harmful message. I think people who are ready to get sober should absolutely consider Vivitrol.

I think your frustration should be directed at the situation, that Vivitrol was possibly forced upon someone, or they felt coherced into getting the shot to satisfy someone else. These situations are not fair to the addict, and I completely agree that Vivitrol shouldn't be used in this fashion. If somebody is not ready to get sober, they should not get the shot regardless of situation.

The Vivitrol shot works well for many people, and does help some individuals with cravings. It is absolutely a valid treatment tool, as longer as the person getting the understands it's mechanism of action and wants sobriety. It should not be forced on people.

I am aware that vivitrol can and does work for some people.. unfortunately those cases are the minority. I can see vivitrol being effective on someone who has an alcohol problem, but not very effective in the case with an opiate addict.

I have been to 4 different outpatients and have come across/ met many people on vivitrol ALL of them were miserable, hated it, and ended up relapsing/ leaving the program. It fucks with your mind and is not an effective treatment for the opiate epidemic. I can see it being good for alcoholics though like I said before.

Of course, you could say its just the people I have encountered that it didn't work for or maybe its just all of NJ that vivitrol don't work but that is not the case ok? Vivitrol IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO FIX THE HERION EPIDEMIC AND WILL NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO SOLVING IT

The biggest factor to getting sober for any addiction is having the desire to be sober. The addict has to want sobriety more then getting high, and be willing to go through the pain and anxiety of recovery. Addiction medication isn't going to work for most addicts until they reach that point in their addiction where they truly want out. Getting sober isn't easy, and people now a days want a quick effortless solution and that's not going to happen anytime soon. There isn't going to be a medication that resolves the addiction epidemic. However, medications like Vivitrol dramatically increase the chance of success for those who truly are ready by adding the extra insurance to that sobriety fight. Opiate addicts that take Vivitrol assuming it's going to eliminate all cravings and miraculously reset them them back to being normal are severely deluded, and the mechanism of action of the shot obviously wasn't explained adequately to them. As for your experience and that of people you know, it's unfortunate it did not work but you are also not the total Vivitrol population, and you're probably not aware of the people it has worked for in New Jersey as they are probably not hanging out in the same spots you are.

I sincerely hope you are not waiting around for science to create a drug that fixes the opiate problem, I wouldn't waste your time. Addiction has so many different variables that factor into it, such as mental illness, physical health, etc. there is never going to be a pill that works on everyone that makes them instantly happy (without being addictive in and of itself), and somehow removes cravings, the desire to use, and resolves all mental health problems. Sobriety takes a lot of effort and hard work. I think Vivitrol is getting a bum rap because so many people have unrealistic expectations when they take it, and I blame the medical community for not providing a better education on the drug before injecting people with it.

mrsnowygrainius... As x_benzo_girl said, objecting to particular circumstances in which vivitrol is used is one thing. But objecting to vivitrol per se based on people "you've encountered" really undercuts your credibility. And then, the best part: when you "encounter" someone who had a good experience with vivitrol (e.g. x_benzo_girl), you shit on their experience because it doesn't align with your own opinion? Dude, that's absurd.

Sorry for the snarkiness. I just think we need to be realistic and well-informed about the few tools we have available for recovering from addiction.
