Science Venus is super amazing bright just look at the Moon

It seems like it does get really bright and it moves around a lot too.

I just have a hard time telling which one is Venus and which one is Mars all of the time !

7 planets are lining up for a big

Big planetary alignment to maximize in 2025

"On the evening of 28 February 2025, all seven of the other planets in the Solar System will appear in the night sky at the same time, with Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars all lining up in a neat row – a magnificent sky feast for the eyes known as a great planetary alignment.

But that's not all. Between now and then, on 21 January 2025, six of the seven other planets will appear in the sky at once in a large alignment – Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, and Saturn, with the exception of Mercury."

I have seen those before and even took pictures of them around ten years ago too.

Those are so cool too !!!

THANK YOU for the Friendly Reminder. 🤩

I Love That.

Nice One

Those are so astounding. I hope I remember to see them next month for sure. 💫💫 The Planets !!

great stuff. thanks for the heads up.

do you use a star map app on your phone?

i have "Sky Guide" installed but i'm always interested in hearing about apps others use. what do you like?

No @alasdairm ... I'm afraid phones are a bit too small for me to enjoy at my age. I use Stellarium on a desktop. 👍

Yeah totally thanks for the heads up. I am an amateur stargazer. I use binoculars. I will keep my eyes to the sky on 2/28

A few years ago one May with the help of the astronomy book I actually found the Sombrero Galaxy with binoculars. The Andromeda Galaxy is easy and can even be seen as a smudge on a clear night without any aid. I love looking at light that started making its way to Earth before humans even existed.

You can see them tonight. It's not just on the 21st. I've been able to see Venus, Jupiter, and Mars pretty easily in the past month.
You can tell Venus because it's the brightest star in the sky. Jupiter is also pretty bright and has been pretty close to the moon lately.
If you're ever in doubt, there's apps for your phone that will tell you exactly what you're looking at. I personally use sky maps.

I've used the 'star maps' app for years. I started back when I got into watching meteor showers. I like it because it tells me what everything is that I'm seeing. Satellites, the regent of meteor showers, constellations, planets, some other stuff I don't understand. I like that it moves with you as you move your phone and that you can pause that and move it manually as well.

Just remember Mars is red. It looks like a little red star to the naked eye.

Jupiter was crazy for a minute there.
You could see the moons with binoculars

Wow. What strength are yours? I don't have mine with me since I'm not at home. I'm planning on a visit to a planetarium here on the 25th. They're doing the night sky. I wondered if they would touch on the 'parade of planets'
I've been interested in going to planetariums or observatories lately. I haven't been to one since high school, and that was for a laser light show.

Easy. Venus appears as the really bright 'star' that can be seen in the East just before sunrise and the West just after sunset. Hence why it's also often called the morning or evening star.

Has anyone been able to see the comet that's been around? They've said it's the brightest comet of 2025. I haven't been outside at night (too cold) but I would like to catch it before it's gone.

Binoculars are a great way to look at the night sky. I do not have a telescope, I did for a while and I spent most of my time trying to position it. I did see the moons of Jupiter through a telescope once. Not sure if I saw them with binoculars so I may try that again too.

You guys are lucky to live where you can actually star watch, where I live there is so much light pollution even the finest of telescopes would yield poor visibility. 👍

I have lived in the same place for the past 5-6 years. I just (in the past month) found the perfect spot for watching the sky, and it's pretty much in the middle of town. But this spot, you need a flashlight to get around it's so dark. I think you could find a spot like that, or maybe just outside of town to watch the sky. It does take about a half hour for your eyes to adjust so you can see stuff.
I also believe there's a website that tells you where the best places are for sky watching. I'll try to find the info and let you know.
